adhawkins Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I've got a Yamaha amp too, driving a set of Kef speakers (these ones). I have a 7.1 amp too, but only 6 speakers are wired (front left, centre and right, and the same at the rear). Sounds great to me, and the whole system was under £1000 if memory serves. Andy Quote
lukeyboy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Boomy, have you considered having the power supply to the house upgraded?? I'm also interested to know if you are licensed to drive that desk Quote
a4drk Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 My speakers system cost £799 plus £20 each for the 5 wall mounts I had a deal at £825 for the lot off a Bristol hi/fi specialist. There not sold everywhere Check out bose's website for your local dealer see if they have a demo room Barry, Have you posted the Photo upside down ?? Quote

Barry Ashcroft Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 QUOTE Have you posted the Photo upside down ?? Plasma is high but it works really well from a viewing angle I have another in the bedroom which is even higher it's mm of the celing. Dave what model is your amp mine's allso a sony. Jeff on the same site is a newer Denon AVR3805 which looks worth a punt I fancy the newer AVR3806 but it's £800 and the only differenc to me is that it has HDMI inputs on it. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Forget the 3805 he has withdrawn it from sale I'll keep looking for you Do you want a Black or Silver amp? Quote
Boomy Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Eltax 10 inch Sub (Same as Boomys) I currently use that sub mainly on the PC/Xbox now, great bit of kit for the price.I got a Tannoy 15" one for films on the projector in the end though. It cost a few quid mind back then but it makes the eltax look like a rubik's cube!.The case it sits inside is really huge. It also has lots of 'stuff' on the back of it to fiddle with and even has a heatsink poking out!. You can pick them up 2nd hand now for 2-300 notes though. The advert for it said similar to this: "The Sub 15 5.1 provides a complete solution for Reveal 5.1 surround monitoring. It contains 6 channels of amplification and user-switching of filtering on every channel to allow the internal crossovers to be used, or for frequencies to be determined by an external processor. For sub frequencies a 100W RMS amplifier drives the 380mm (15") bass unit. A 100W RMS amplifier is also built-in for the centre channel, and 4 x 70W amplifiers for the left, right and rear channels." I'm not sure what all that means, but when you crank it up it can destroy the f####ng floor and walls Quote
JeffC Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Barry black or silver.. done a bit of reading up and would be right in thinking a denon avr 3805 would be a safe bet for around £400 ish.. seems to get good reviews and looks to be better than the 3803 and newer model ? took a chance with my limited knowledge and put a wanted ad on theforum and watching a couple on ebay. MAT1800 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Don't think you'll be disapointed with the 3805, most of the denons seem to be a good choice. Most importantly though... Have you picked out your first play DVD, for the new system? Quote
Boomy Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Most importantly though... Have you picked out your first play DVD, for the new system? The shootout in Heat or the start of saving private Ryan Quote
adhawkins Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 The opening scene of Swordfish is always a good test of a 5.1 system Andy Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Most importantly though... Have you picked out your first play DVD, for the new system? The shootout in Heat or the start of saving private Ryan Top call Boomy!! But I would have gone for Iron Maden in concert!! Buzz Quote
moomin Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I tend to use the lift lobby scene in The Matrix. Or the opening scene of Master And Commander is good. The start of Men In Black is not bad. The list goes on... moom. Quote
