Rob Navin Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Has any one else just watched the GP2 race. Hamilton 21st after a spin to 2nd. What a drive Quote
jeff oakley Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Yep just saw that, it just goes to show how racing can be if the driver is the most important component of the package. it also showed how tough racing doesn't have to knock a car out of the race. If an F1 car banged wheels like those guys were doing they would be out of the race. Quote
DAVE O Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Yep - quality - that should get him a drive in F1 next year where his talents are defo not going to show in the same way Quote
Rob Navin Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 There was talk of him taking the spare seat at McLarren for some of he remaining races of the year but Ron has said no. After a performance like that you have to hope he is having a rethink Quote
pistonbroke Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Faboulus drive , Hamiltons race craft was superb as usual , watched most of the series , refreshing to see good close RACING Quote
Richgm Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Watched it live on eurosport. see this post. Quote
ChrisF Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I have to agree with all of the above, I caught the GP2 today and it was superb, real racing Quote
pistonbroke Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Can't see Hamilton getting any sort of decent F1 contract . Not unless he can come up with some big money sponser Talent not a lot to do with the ranks of F1 these days Quote
Ginger Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Mrs. Ginger and I watched the GP2, and as fans of racing were on the absolute edges of our seats. Awesome racing - possibly the best I've seen for a long, long time!` Quote
ChrisG Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Can't see Hamilton getting any sort of decent F1 contract . Not unless he can come up with some big money sponser Are you joking? He has Ron Dennis / the whole of McLaren behind him so Im pretty sure they'll farm him out to a mid-grid team next year to build up some F1 experience then slot him into a Mac for 2008, thats if they don't decide to put him straight into a McLaren next year. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 He is brilliant but probably needs to learn to do what he's told by the team manager before they'll let him out in F1. Can't have a driver actually racing can we? Quote

ChrisG Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 youve lost me, he effectively has a huge sponsor in McLaren itself, so why does he need to snare a big sponsor of his own in order to get a decent drive, unless you're implying that the Mac isnt going to be a good car over the next couple of years? Martin Keene Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Don't suppose anyone recorded it did they? I forgot to set the video and missed it while I was laying in a hedge in Amsterdam... Quote
