The air con in my Beemer stinks for a few mins when you switch it on. It works perfectly and I've been told its just a bacterior build up in the system. On bmwland somebody had suggested taking out the pollen filters and spraying some household antibac spray into the system then running with the heat on in the car followed by max aircon to kill the bugs. I've tried it and nowt has happened.

Does anybody know how the pros clean the system out - is there a diy product for doing this?

I use a spray from my local motor factor, about £8 made by Comma I think.  Start the engine, set air con to recirc, set the spray off behind one of the seats and close the doors and windows and 10 mins later it's disinfected the air con and it smells much better.

Or pay a main dealer £60 to do similar with a handheld spray . . . ???   :D

You can get something from a decent automotive factors that treats the whole system and leaves it smelling like new :t-up:

You can get an a/c deodorizer can, it has a thin pipe on it and you put it down the vents or spray it directly onto the evaporator inside the car, it comes out as a foam and kills the bacteria, easy 5 minute job.
