scott beeland Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 After 2 very scary moment last night; I'm desperate to change the 32R's to something else. Mainly road use now but needs to be track use friendly too so looking to stay on 1b's. Are the Toyo 888's good in the wet? Which of the other current 13" 1b tyres has proved itself in the wet...but will also do dry without melting itself?? Quote
Westfieldman Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 C2C 2005 I used R888's do you remember it was wet and I was fine with the grip and pace Quote
scott beeland Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 True. Need to get this geomo sorted out aswell though Quote
GuyH Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Forecast for this weekends sprint meeting in Ty Croes is : Not much help to you now, but on Monday I and others will have pretty strong views on how good 888's are in the p***, one way or the other ... Quote
scooby Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Scott i've been on 888's for about 15 months and used them in all conditions. I have had no problems at all in the wet good grip as long as it's not real heavy standing water. get some bought Quote
Tubs Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Just don't expect them to be good in the first few miles. Had some fitted new to my CRX for the Easter trip to the Nurburgring. Went out in the wet, very slowly for a sighting lap, with a couple others and was sliding all over the shop. After a few dry laps and the tyres were well scrubbed in did another wet lap and I was amazed at how the levels of grip had changed. Tubs Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Used them in severe down pours the other week, (lots of standing water) with no problem. (other than the sheer quantity of water they cleared from the road and dumped in my lap ) Interestingly, the other week, I followed two WFs on T1 (not sure which version) tyres through a set of mildly moist (and slightly greasy) twisty bits on the Cat and Fiddle road with them both stepping out at the same point without breaking traction myself I'd second what Tub's said though, when first fitted they were very poor for the first few miles, getting steadily better as they scrubbed in. felters Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 up front... I have never used 888s. However I have used Yoko 48's in the wet on two Westfields and I would say they're ok, BUT not a patch on a real wet tyre. Yoko A021's really are the business - after all why would Yoko bother with a wet tyre if there wasn't any difference? It is well worth the second set of wheels... Quote
scott beeland Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 Thought about the 21r/2nd set of wheels option too...but dunno if I'd use the wets enoght to justify 'em before they went age hard Quote
Guest Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 if its mainly road use then just get 21r's anyway. Quote
adhawkins Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I did a wet run on my 888s on Sunday when the heavens opened just before lunch. While far from quick (132.something IIRC), the car was far from undriveable, in fact I had quite a bit of fun on that run . There were no real 'puddles', but the track was definitely 'wet'. However, I think I'll be sticking with my 21Rs for 'road' use. Andy Quote
studbuckle Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 I can vouch for how wet it was for Andy's run just before lunch. It felt like Team Gently Hosting had the circuit to ourselves with Team boss and I on the viewing platform all alone getting soaked while Andy lined up on his own for his run... Quote
George Hardman Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Not R888's, but as we do not seem to have many "positive" posts with regard to Toyo tyres, I would like to add the following. Chris and I were competing in a non-Westfield event at Aintree on Saturday and the weather was absolutely atrocious. However the ammount of grip we were getting in conditions varying from standing water to slightly drying was, under the circumstances, very good. Tyres in question, T1R's / T1S's. Quote
