Westfieldman Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 This is in the news Here This station is a 4000MW station and provids the uk with around 13% of it's electricity If the protesters ever managed to turn it off it would probiably bring the grid down so most of you will be sat in the dark The coal stations are slowly closing and GAS stations tacking up the gaps untill we go Nucular Quote
studbuckle Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 indeed, we've been having fun and games with Police and security presence for the last week. We live just 1 mile from Eggbourough PS, the smaller but not insignificant baby brother of Drax Quote
Blatman Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 One assumes that these protesters live far enough away from the power stations to not be affected if they succeed in their aim. Bunch of muppets... Quote
jeff oakley Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 The coal stations are slowly closing and GAS stations tacking up the gaps untill we go Nucular I heard an article on the radio which said the opposite. basically coal was now becoming a cheap alternative fuel and the fact that much of our gas and oil supplies are coming now from unstable countries means an independant fuel scource is needed. On the protester front, just listening to them makes my blood boil. They have travelled in fossil fuel powered transport to protest about the use of fossil fuels. These people live in a special world where perpetual none polluting power is freely available.to the masses. I would love to know how many of these are unemployed proffesional moaners who move from whatever the current fad is to protest about. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 This station is a 4000MW station and provids the uk with around 13% of it's electricity BBC's 'PM' says 7% but whatever the facts are it'd be a hell of a lot to lose. BTW how many thousands of windmills would we need in a Force Seven to make up for that lot? Quote
Westfieldman Posted August 31, 2006 Author Posted August 31, 2006 QUOTE One assumes that these protesters live far enough away from the power stations to not be affected if they succeed in their aim. The loss of Drax at a moments notice would pull the grid down so you would all be in the dark Eggbourough PS and Ferrybridge PS are both 2000MW stations Drax is 4000MW With some stations still in outage/shutdows for repairs there is litle spare to go around Quote

I heard that and believe that they are re-opening some coal mine as the price of coal has followed gas and oil up. What do these people want? - Can't have gas, oil or coal power as they are bad for the enviroment, can't have wind power it spoils the view and make the tele go funny, can't have wave power as it will kill the lesser spotted bird or something and don;t even think about nuclear (but it's not where near as bad as everyone thinks) . Blatman Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 QUOTE The loss of Drax at a moments notice would pull the grid down so you would all be in the dark Unlikely. My power comes from France, as does a fair amount of the South Easts power. 7% loss is not enough to throw the entire country in to darkness as the remaing stations have enough spare capacity... just... Don't believe protester propaganda. As Jeff and Neil say, they really don't operate in the real world. It was said best by an American senator last week on the reasons why his state (I forget which one) is mining it's ass off. He said: "Unless you're living in the jungle naked and eating the plants, then you are part of the energy problem, no matter how much you protest." It's a fair observation... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Why not plant some more trees so they can all have their own to hug oh dear climate changes .................. lets all do our bit to save the planet When are they gonna get real and understand it'll resolve **** all as long as US, China, India and all the under developed nations constantly churn the crap and toxic mess Clarkson for President Don't care ................. I'll turn on my generator Quote
spence Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Wish i had the time to protest. I have to go to work and pay taxes so these protesters have got something to do. Am i doing something wrong here???? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Yep ..................... you're living in the real world Quote
vodkatart Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Absolute 's and their the same people that say no to nuclear, where do these people think were going to get energy from wind turbines . Of course they all live in huts powered by dung and water wheels. I’m getting cheesed of enough with the rising cost of fuel bills without this lot starting off. Then the Americans on the news about Arni (Hummers n all) and America ‘ Going Green’ Talking bol**cks, oh forgot that V10 5.0litre really runs on Aqua. Quote

cleowuss Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Its a shame they shut down Selby super pit (or are close to)cause drax sits on it!!!! AS for the protesters drax is one of the cleanest coal powered stations in the country it cost enough to put the desulferistion plant in. the plants owners should fire up the gas turbines my god are they loud as kids we used to hear them in Goole Quote
Ian Podmore Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Bring on the nuclear power stations, dig some big holes in the ground for the waste, jobs sorted! Put the protesters in a cage at the top of the boiler house, see how long they can withstand 40 degrees plus heat in high humidity. Or how about putting them with the nuclear waste..... With the FGD that they have installed on these stations, and the low NOx burners in the boilers they really aren't that bad emmisions wise. At least we'll have some gas left to heat our houses if they run the coal fired stations. Quote
