Nick PC Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Trying to start car but whilst it will turn over it will not fire. Suspect I may have the fuel line the wrong way round but before I pull it all apart can someone confirm which of the pipe to the fuel rail is the flow is it the one at the fron of the engine with the bleed valve thing on it? scruffythefirst Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Feed from the pump should go directly to the fuel rail, then to the regulator then back to the tank Quote
richardzetec Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Yes, from the filter, with the white markings, fuel in. Return pipe with pink markings, fuel out. Pump usually runs for a second or two, each time you turn ignition on, fills the fuel rail. Mine looks same as yours, I had problem with injectors prior to initial startup. Regards Richard Quote
KerryS Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Have you bled the air out from the little Schrader valve? Kerry Quote
Nick PC Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 I think that I have got the fuel lines the wrong way round as air will not bleed out of the system. Thanks very much for the assistance I will get on to this in the morning and hopefully will see life in the engine. Quote
jak Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Don't forget the tank end of the fuel lines too. Lay out should be 1. tank to fuel pump 2. Fuel pump to filter 3.Filter to line that goes to fuel rail at bulkhead end of car 4. Return from fuel rail to line that goes to fuel line at rear of car and then straight back to fuel tank John. Nick PC Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 Looks like I may have right as feed from tank goes to the fuel line that goes to what I presume is the pressure regulater at the bulkhead end of the rail. I thought it needed to connect to the one at the front with the thing like a tyre cap on it and this is what I had got wrong. If my fuel lines are the right way round them the injectors must be stuck as the current is getting to them as this has been checked today. Quote
KerryS Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Can you actually hear the pump run when you turn the ignition on, as Richard says? I had similar problem to you but tracked it down to a bad connection at the fuse block which meant pump saw no volts. Good luck. Kerry Quote
Nick PC Posted August 26, 2006 Author Posted August 26, 2006 Pump is running and have also checked current on injectors. When car is turned over there is no smell of fuel from exhaust suggesting it is not getting into engine. Will take fuel lines off in morning to check that fuel is getting through and will then scratch head a lot to find out what is happening. Thanks everone for the posts as you will all know this is an exciting time in the build and all I want to hear is that lovely roar from the engine to confirm that all is well!!!! Quote
KerryS Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Ah! That's sort of good then It's just brilliant when it does start though, one of the build hihglights Keep us posted on progress Kerry Quote
Nick PC Posted August 27, 2006 Author Posted August 27, 2006 Success Another Westie barks into life. Thanks chaps for the help. Now just got 101 things to do to complete the jigsaw puzzle! Quote

Er... 1. Tank to filter. 2. Filter to pump... etc... Not pre filtering the pump is less than ideal IMHO... Quote
