Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 This clip really takes me back. I might well have been at this very meeting although I don't recall seeing Jim Clark at this circuit, only at Brands. I do recall Jochen Rindt and Paddy Hopkirk at one such meeting, though. This was saloon car racing with mutual respect. Quote

Johnson Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Top stuff that, before I was born mind.... I lived very close to Crystal Palace fro the first 20 odd years of my life but could not really find out much about the track. Has anyone got any aerial photos of were it was in relation to now please. We did use part of the track I believe when the skateboard craze first kicked off in the UK but I cannot picture in my head where the track ran. Cheers J Quote
Lurksalot Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Have a look on google earth you can see most of the south of the track ( from alongside the pool round under the bridge and up the other side , but I'm not sure where the nurth end went edited to add this map If you overlay it on google earth it all becomes clear Quote
Boomy Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Superb viewing gents thanks Skateboard craze huh Johnson?. Did one partake of the catamaran maneuver? Quote
pistonbroke Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Some great racing there , I remember a lot of good F2 races on TV like newcomer Jochen Rindts win in 1964 and one that comes to mind here The final event in October was immortalised by the BBC when the Formula 3 final was won by Dave Walkers Lotus, but this was overshadowed by James Hunt climbing from his car and knocking out Dave Morgan in the middle of the track after a last corner incident. Dave Morgan was later found guilty of reckless driving by the RAC, and was fined and banned, while everyone knows what happened to James Hunt. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 20, 2006 Author Posted August 20, 2006 Top stuff that, before I was born mind.... We did use part of the track I believe when the skateboard craze first kicked off in the UK Do you mean 1976? Or the second wave. I have a (now expired) patent to my name for a variable stiffness skateboard deck, intended for slalom use. One John Shayer, a '77 slalom whizz-kid, tested it on Primrose Hill and lent his signature to its promotion. Quote
Johnson Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 LOL never tried the catamaran. Yes it was the first time round in 76,I was 8 lol. If I remember rightly a guy used to turn up in a car selling skateboard stuff so you could spec and build your own board with all the choice bits. My board got ran over by a 1600E Cortina when I fell off it going down South Norwood Hill too fast.Killed my trucks so replaced them for Gullwing slalom trucks oh the memories. Thanks for the link Lurksalot will try out Google Earth now. I have done a little bit of searching and found this little snippet "From 1997-2000, once a year, part of the track was re-opened for a two-day 'sprint' meet organised by the Sevenoaks and District Motor Club. The event attracted entries from all over the country and was invariably over-subscribed, resulting in 'special interest' cars be given priority. On two occasions, the one-off Courier-Cadillac was one such entrant, gaining much spectator interest and enthusiasm." I never knew that either. Cheers J Quote
