BMW 330d - Head Unit Upgrade

Recommended Posts

I've just bought a BMW 330d Sport. (204bhp)

(Thought it would be good to tow the Westfield!)

The standard stereo is absolutely crap.

Has anyone upgraded it?

The car has the BMW Factory Phone Bluetooth fitted.

I like the fact that you can answer your phone from the steering wheel & your "phone book " apears on the Radio screen.

So, ideally, i would like to keep the BMW head unit.

First step is to replace the rear shelf speakers with a 17cm - 3way full range speaker & the front doors with a really good make of 2 way components.

Eventually i would like to amp them & add a sub, but i believe you cant amp the standard BMW head Unit?

Does anyone you the configuration of the standard system? - Is there a separate amp etc? ?

Help..... any advice please...!

Good choice David  :t-up:

afaik. Bmw do 2 upgrades for the sound system, Ive had a 330d sport with Bmw-proffesional head unit, it runs a fairly similar head unit but has more knobs and buttons  to fiddle with    it also has amplified speakers and although not Audi quality is much improved on standard  and almost good enough to live with , and the other option  is the Harmon Cardon upgrade  :t-up:

my 5 series is about on par with the proffesional system, so again not brilliant , If you try to crack it up the bass makes the speakers fart    :(

Its one of the only things that disapoints me with this car  :bangshead:  beats me why they fit such sh*t speakers

Try giving Julian Thompson (Blatchat member and ex-Caterham owner) a ring, he may be able to help as I know he had a 330d himself for a while and he runs a shop in Macclesfield fitting ICE gear etc so he'll be able to advise what options you have  :t-up:
