adamnreeves Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I now the inertia cut off switch is mounted somewhere in or close to the diff carrier area as the loom connections terminate here but where exactly? I am thinking close to the diff supporting bracket but inside the diff carrier area. I do not have the fuel tank yet and want to mount the switch where it is relatively easy to get out and will not be in the way of anything that I need to install later. Quote
tex Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 i would suggest placing it somewhere you can reach it with out taking things apart.. reaper was out on one of the NE blats out over some pretty rough roads and went over a cattle grid.. tripped out the inertia switch.. we didnt know it was there.. do now!! Locating in a place easy to get to is what I want to achieve but on an incomplete car I do not know where this magic place is. Quote
Blatman Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Under the bonnet. If I had one it'd be on the scuttle somewhere, or maybe even inside the car near where the wiper motor would mount. By the diff is just daft... IMHO. With the boot in (and with it full of luggage, 'cos sods dictates that it'll pop at *the * most inconvenient time) how easy will it be to reach in to the rear of the car to reset the switch? With the car on the ground and the wheels on, getting in to reach the diff with your hands is a lot harder than you might think... Quote
Mike H Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 It usually goes on the diff side of the flat vertical plate behind the diff (if that makes sense) and that's where the loom normally has the connection. There are 2 types of switch, my loom was setup for the big black switch (Rover part?) rather than the one with the red button. Mike Quote
moomin Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 QUOTE By the diff is just daft... IMHO tis a bit daft, and probably done as it's conveniently close to the fuel pump wiring I'd guess? not that it'd be much less convenient to have it up at the front end of the fuel pump wire. one of lifes mysteries I suppose moomin Quote

Blatman, I have installed the standard westfield loom and the connnectors terminate in the diff carrier area, so I suppose I am stuck with that unless I start modifying the loom. Quote

Mike WF sent my the red one first and it has the wrong connectors on it! then they sent my the black one and it fits, I did state SEight!. Anyway I think I know where you mean, looking from the back, on the right hand side corner of the diff carrier where the loom splits into three, for speedo sensor, fuel pump and intertia switch there is a welding in plate, I guess this is what you refer to, makes sense. I just wanted to check before I start drilling holes. Quote
Bazzer Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I now have mine where I can reset it while still strapped in. Mine had a habbit of tripping at around 120mph when I started braking for a hiarpin Its quite anoying to have to get out of the car on track to reset it !!! Bazzer Quote
Mike H Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 That's it. Obvious bit -> put it on the diff side or you won't get the fuel tank in or be able to get at it from underneath Mike Quote

Didn't realise or think that one could access from underneath, makes sense, but does this mean I attach the switch upside down! I am guessing absolutely not! Quote
Bazzer Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Mines a ford item (The one with the red button) and they are fitted to Fiesta's with the button facing forwards. Bazzer Quote
Mitchamidilly Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I have no inertia cut-off switch. I realise I should have one but do I need this to pass SVA? Quote
