Right, I've decided i want to compete in the Speed Series next year and I am a complete Novice so need advice on what I need to do!

I will be entering the Novice road going class under 1800cc (Pressume this is correct as I have an 1800 sport that is completely road legal?).

Looking at the Regs am I right in thinking all I need is a sticker for the ignition switch (states to place this on panel adjacent to switch - since the switch is under the dash and rotates towards driver for 'OFF' is the scuttle the best place to put this?) and a 1 litre oil catch tank.

second I will need an MSA licence - do I have to buy the pack at £50 or can I use the application form on the MSA Website?

When are applications made to the series?

Thanks for all your help in advance and already getting excited about next year!

The beginners guide is here clicky

It'll tell you the sort of licence you need, car preperation etc.

Beyond that, my first (and as it turns out, only   ) outing this year isn't till late September. (Had planned to do three or four in the later part of the season, but circumstances prevented me).

Hopefully will be doing more next year though.

Jeff

You would be In Class F with me Richard Carroll, Andy Lyall, Martin & Andrew Squires etc etc

See list of entrants in Speed Series forum on main web page

Hi Jeff, you will be in "F". Terry Everall and Richard Carroll will be in there with similar spec cars to you. Terry could win the SS this year, he's a very quick driver with a lot of experience (and years) and blitzing the opposition in "F"

On the day the organising club will lump you together with the non roadgoing, like Me, Del & Smithy, so a bit unfair if you're after a class win. However if you stick to the short technical stuff, a BEC on 1b's is often more of a match for the Flymo.

Unfortunately, the roadgoing 1b & aero is still not a recognised MSA class in a lot of clubs & championships

Speak to Nick Algar, he will tell you all you need to know, or if you see the Flymo anywhere come over for a chat, just bought another motorhome, so the kettle will always be on!!

Tommo

Edited to add: I have done the roadgoing CEC in with 1a's and 1b's and the flymo. Given my time over again I would have a Busa on 1b's as it's the perfect compromise IMHO

(Still love the Flymo tho' )

Never mind next year, what about this year. Never got a chance to meet you. I got all excited with the pre season banter. Thought I might lose Billy no mates status when it came to late nights with Mr Fosters

Well we did Croft and Three Sisters - got no times and too few runs and got a bit p******** off (just unlucky really),  sold both our CEC's and bought a BEC and had a little time to get used to it - consequently we missed most of the Speed Series this year  :sheep:

But we'll be back......... :p

Ah, didn't do 3 slaps, & had all sorts of probs at croft, no starter motor, being tow started and having to muscle to the front of the queue before the Flymo overheated! Not to mention a horrific brake bias problem and nearly wrote it off @ tower.

Mr Fosters took a back seat that day.
