hi everyone,

i'm hoping to get my 1300 xflow engine running soon but first need to change the oil. what oil grade should i be using? also the idea of a 1300 fails to to excite me so i was wondering what engines will fit in a pre-lit as i believe the engine bay is tight and i don't want to ruin the look cosmetically from the outside of the car by modifying the bonnet to give extra hight. many thanks furry

20W50 oil for the crossflow.

The 1.3 x-flow is dimensionally identical to the 1.6/1.7 versions.

If you want something more modern then I suspect the next easiest to fit will be a Toyota 4AGE.

If, as I suspect (but I'll stand to be corrected) the pre lit is the same size as a Caterham, then you can fit a Vx, a Zetec or even a Duratec, 'cos they all fit in Caterham's...

A pre-lit is very tight with engine height.People who put pinto's in there, usually mod the bonnet to clear the cam cover.I think that may be also a problem with multi cam engines with head height.I suppose you could lower the engine into the chassis further and rely on a dry sump system to sort the underside sump issues you may encounter.I know that my old pre-lit,the rocker cover cap used to just clear the bonnet line,as you could lean on the bonnet and tap the cap.I would,if you are interested in more performance look at more cc's.Get a 1600cc block and bottom end and swap it over. There are a few crossflows that appear,as people take them out for larger engines. If you put a 5 speeded onto a 1300cc,you will notice a drop in performance.I noticed that on my 110bhp crossflow when I did the same and had to resort to 150bhp and a large wedge of cash.

As for oil 20w50  Valvoline Racing every time.
