mideast_busa Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Hello, I have just taken delivery of my megabusa (after long months of struggling with import regulations, etc.) I am proud to be the first owner of a Westfield in the Middle East. Anyway, I have a few questions to ask (I did check the archives, but no dice). 1) I am unfamiliar with the dry sump system. So how do you check the oil level on this damn thing? The dry sump tank is connected to some resvoir on the side. This resvoir has a clear hose attached to it, which shows no oil (while cold). So how do I check?? And a later question, how do I change the oil? 2) I am told I need to raise the fuel pressure to 44 psi (it was set lower due to some UK regulations). How do I do that? I presume this is to be done at the pressure regulator. But how? I have much more questions, but that's it for now. Thanks Quote
stu999 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Welcome to the madhouse! I will answer my questions as best I can, but maybe others can chip in as i don't personally own a Busa... 1) With most dry sump systems (and I can't see yours being much different) the oil level is checked via the large dry sump tank. The reservoir on the side is probably an oil catch tank which is a trap for mist/excess oil to be blown into, rather than onto the road. Ideally, this should be empty but may collect a little oil over time. The *usual* procedure is to run the engine, and peer into tha large tank to see if there is plenty of oil in there. Again, systems vary, but there will probably be a visible baffle plate inside the tank. If the tank is over half full, but below the baffle plate, it should fine. If the tank is too full, you may find oil gets blown into the afromentioned catch tank. Others with Busa engined cars will be better able to advise where they find their level works best... 2) The fuel pressure regulator does indeed adjust the fuel pressure - presuming that it is the adjustable type. If there isnt a guage included on the regulator, you will need to source one of these. Adjustment is by undoing a locking nut usually situated in the middle of the regulator, and adjusting the screw in to increase pressure. The screw *might* be hidden under a domed nut which will need to be removed first. The pressure will probably have to be adjusted whilst the engine is running. HTH Stu. Quote
mideast_busa Posted August 10, 2006 Author Posted August 10, 2006 Thank you very mush Stu. I will start my homework this weekend. Thabet Quote
higgsti Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 if its a westfield dry sump oil level should be 25mm below top baffle (the top plate with 25mm approx hole in centre) .as stu says the tank with the sight tube on sounds like a catch tank Quote
mideast_busa Posted August 13, 2006 Author Posted August 13, 2006 Thanks Hig. Yes, I checked it and it is about that much below the top baffle. Incidently, where the hell is the fuel pressure regulator? For the life of me I couldn't find it this weekend. I traced the fuel line, etc. not much luck, it is my first bike engined car you see Quote
