oioi Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I am getting some weird spam (meaningless drivel with .gif attachements which i dont open) from different addresses apart from being annoying is it likely to be harmfull? more importantly how do i make it stop? Quote
Tubs Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I got the same - even after I cancelled the subscription. I just mark 'em as spam and let Norton do the rest. As for being harmful, for me it's not worth finding out. Tubs Quote

DavidR Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 more importantly how do i make it stop? Easiest way is to change your email address and never use the current one again. however changing email address isn't always what's wanted so there are options under the Message menu in Outlook Express to "Block sender". This will work where its generally the same addresses sending to you. If it's different addresses but on the same domain e.g. spam.com then you can go into the tools menu in Outlook and then Message Rules. select "Blocked Senders list" and you can add domains you don't want to receive mail from. It shouldn't get through after that. Unfortunately if they keep inventing new domains you will be continually adding blocked senders so then the changing email option come back into the fore. David PS Any .gif attachment is probably an attempt to infect you with a virus etc. Quote
Blatman Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 QUOTE PS Any .gif attachment is probably an attempt to infect you with a virus etc. Not necessarilly. I get emails from a couple of club members who have company logo's embedded in the message body. Opening them in Outlook or Yahoo sometimes has the .gif file of the logo as an attachment, rather than in the message body. I *know* they aren't virus', but they still come up as attachments. Not realy sure why either as I accept HTML emails no problem Quote
