Barry Ashcroft Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 I am a big fan of the BMW V8 but it is a very wide engine my choice would be the 5.0ltr out of the previous M5 Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Have you driven one yet? Awesome is the only way to describe it. Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 How about this one?For sale on Autotrader. That is a TVR modified Rover V8, Project AJP8 is talking about putting one of TVR's own AJP8 engines in... That also a 4.0 ltr not a 4.5 ltr. Thats correct the majority of TVR V8's are 'boosted' Rover V8's and the mad thing I've found is that the TVR parts I get are much cheaper than equiv Rover bits 'kin crazy I run a 4.6 TVR efi 290bhp/330ft/lbs getting around 30mpg... I just wish I would have gone for the LS efi engine. Despite the chassis mods I think It would have made a better choice. But I am happy with the TVR lump still as you say Barry 3.5 K for the LS kit is a bargin or alternatively go V8 jag Buzz Quote
hilux Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 QUOTE My thought process is that the engine is realitively light and compact but develops good power and should provide spectacular performance - especially if I keep the weight down on the rest of the build Why bother fitting a small 4.5ltr when you can just as easily fit a Chevy LS1 with 5.7ltr 31/2 Grand for 350bhp fuel injection 6sp gearbox with headers and ecu it's a no brainer for me You will NOT need a lightweight body believe me. Any cost in losing weight that way will in my opinion be a waste of money. 350 bhp in a `say` 800kg car will give 437+ bhp per ton. Not bad you might think but the torque will be awesome and power is useless without torque. I had 250ish bhp in my JE V8 G27 (at about 770kg) and it ate Griffith 500`s and frightened me stupid with seamless acceleration in any gear at any speed (bottle ran out at 150ish) . Main issue was the torque was huge so it would lock the rear wheels on occasion which was interesting entering a bend/roundabout. Chevrolet LS1 is a great engine and cheap for an out of the box solution. The TVR engine is NOT reliable and costs a fortune if it goes wrong. I am a strong believer in having useable power. A massively powerful torquey engine in a light car with limited scope for wheel width sounds ideal but driving a car that lights up the wheels and has to be restrained is not my ideal. I have been in a 1000bhp Cobra (briefly) and I will never ever get in it again. 60-100 in under 3 secs but it can only be driven on the roads at 1/4 throttle. Regardless enjoy it whatever you do Quote
