TVR engined Westie

I am about to embark on a (rather ambitious) project to build a AJP8 4.5 litre engined Westie. Has anyone done this, seen it done? My thought process is that the engine is realitively light and compact but develops good power and should provide spectacular performance - especially if I keep the weight down on the rest of the build - considering a carbon fibre tub - anyone seen this done?

Carbon fibre body tubs have been done before, but only in narrows. And I'm sure I've heard about a AJP engined car before as well... There a quite a few kicking around with TVR Rover lumps as well.

and I think you'll find the performance pretty spectacular without the hassle of developing a carbon tub  ;)  :t-up:

When you say carbon tub do you mean chassis or body? On here the main section of the bodywork is often referred to as the tub.  :)

I seem to recall that the AJP engine is actually a "black box" engine owned by TVR for it's lifetime and only "lent" to the owners of the car. If one fails it goes back to TVR and replaced under an exchange agreement. However I may be mistaken. I'm also not saying that you haven't got one or can't get hold of one but it maybe a problem. Also if you have got one make sure it's had the camshaft mod.

How about this one?

For sale on Autotrader.

That is a TVR modified Rover V8, Project AJP8 is talking about putting one of TVR's own AJP8 engines in...

That also a 4.0 ltr not a 4.5 ltr.

Why bother fitting a small 4.5ltr when you can just as easily fit a Chevy LS1 with 5.7ltr it's all about cubes you know  ;)  ;)

Saw one with a TVR V8 in the trader a couple of months ago - IIRC it was the 500 engine from the Griffith...

Completely barking if you ask me... :p

I reckon if it will fit its a fantastic idea. Its a great engine and there are third party tunners with lots of knowelge of them.

Nice revy flat plane crank v8 is just what the doctor ordered. Go for it I say  :t-up:

The Tuscan race car engines were leased with the cars and had to go back when the car finished racing. There are plenty of road going AJP V8's knocking around though.

Chap at Duxford yesterday with a Cobra sporting BMW 4.4L V8, much lighter and more powerful (350bhp quoted) than a Rover V8 apparently, it made all the right noises and 33 mpg mentioned.

He then dropped in to the conversation that his companies next project is a Lexus V8 Engine in a Cobra - apparently the ECU is self-teaching and you can even go forced induction and the ECU can cope with it to get the best out of the engine. Something like that will do for mapping what Sat Nav did for ...errrrrrrrm maps.
