spence Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Thinking of doing some track days. Apart from a helmet, can anyone let me know what else i will need so that i can go on a track. I suspect most tracks will have their own set of items required, but are there any compulsory items needed at all tracks. Cheers Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 1 litre catch tank Crash Helmet Car and most importantly are the following courtesy for fellow drivers some common sense the ability to ensure to read all instructions given by the trackday organisers and finally good hearing for the on the day drivers briefing Have fun and enjoy Quote
MVS Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 QUOTE 1 litre catch tank Is this to stop oil spills? Or am I missing something. Is this compulsery for all trackdays. Quote
Tigger Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Car Doh! Wouldn't have thought of that one - Pretty obvious though unless you were going to run around the track Catch tank it to catch any oil being thrown out of the cam cover, they breath faily heavy when pushed around a track, and then there's the G-Force. Put it this way, would you like to enter a corner full belt and find somebody had dropped some oil on the track ...? Compulsory = Yes! Tigger Quote
stu999 Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 1 litre catch tank Is this to stop oil spills? Or am I missing something. Is this compulsery for all trackdays. It certainly is to stop oil spills. Most, if not all TDO's ask for a catch tank to be fitted - if the engine 'breathes' to atmosphere... Quote
spence Posted August 6, 2006 Author Posted August 6, 2006 Cheers for that. I've got a catch tank fitted so thats a bit of luck. I think it is there so the pressure in the engine and gearbox doesn't get to much and in effect allows it to breathe. Is this right? That was a quick reply by you two . I've asked a question you have already answered before i got my reply in Quote
jonansett Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Take spare cans of fuel! I think all say that you need at least a long sleve tshirt, have to cover up your arms. Worth taking spanners, few tools, cable ties, gaffa tape etc. poss a spare wheel? Quote
nikpro Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 1 litre catch tank Done plenty of trackdays with all the top companies - none specify a catch tank but you would need it for scruteneering at race events. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 by fitting one - it can save a lot of embarassment and hold-ups if you do drop oil Most of the "companies" don't note it as mandatory - quite simply it does'nt matter to them how much time is lost by having to clean up an oil spillage, it's not their track-time thats lost, the money is still in the bank consider it courtesy to your fellow track day drivers Quote

Well, even if they don't, IMHO a person that goes to a trackday (or indeed, even uses the car on the road) without one is a fool... Quote

jonansett Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Simple things as well that you overlook, bottles or drink (as usually v expensive there!) poss a few fold away chairs? Spare oil to top up with just in case! Tyre pump with a good guage ( v important!) Quote
Phil. S Posted August 6, 2006 Posted August 6, 2006 Tie wraps! Invaluable. I also take a basic tool kit, a rag to wipe oil, tyre pump with gauge, all fluids (oil, brake fluid, and water) and overalls and latex gloves in case I have to get stuck in. The day before I check the torque on all of the suspension and wheel bolts (I found one loose before Abingdon recently) and brake fluid, oil and coolant levels. Also check all the brake shoes and pads. Track day organisers don't really require much. Usually just that you meet the relevant noise limits, have a driver's licence, and that your car is road legal. Quote
