I'm new to all this, having purchased a 2 litre zetec sew three months ago. It's running on twin carbs with an alpha management system.

All I can say is that I should have done it years ago...the grin factor is huge......however, it went for its MOT at the weekend and failed on it's CO2 emissions.

Can anyone advise me what the emission levels should be. Kwik fit tried to MOT it, but couldn;t find a 2 litre zetec engine in their emissions book !!! They kept saying all they had was levels for a 1.8 zetec.

Eventually they tested it as a pre cat car, but failed it.  It's due to get "tuned" next week, before a retest, but I'd really like to know what emission levels it should comply with.......I just don't trust the clowns to pick the right levels.

The cars on an "M" reg and was reg as a westy in 2003, built from a kit purchased 2002

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Welcome :)

MOT FAQ is here. Pleae follow the links in that thread... ;)

Basically, if your car was built by *anyone* other than the factory, then it is an amateur built/kit car and is subject to a visible smoke test only. Do not be afraid to *insist* that the correct test is carried out at MOT time, as most garages are unfamiliar with the rules.

Better yet, tell us where in the country you are and I'm sure someone will be able to suggest a nearby Westfield friendly MOT station.

We've been here before, but this statement is actually not strictly correct...  My pre95 zetec (Q reg, and ok it's not a Westy... but my experience is still relevant) was SVA'd in 2004, and has the emissions limits as tested at SVA stated on the V5 and on the new fangled computerised MOT system.  When the car had its MOT last year the limits appeared on the MOT computer, and that is therefore the limit to which it was tested.  This does seem to have only happened in the last 2 or 3 years, and not everyone seems to get the same treatment, but people ought to be aware...

Re. the original question, I found that when my zetec was on twin 40s I always had to wind in the idle mixture screws by 1/4 to 1/2 a turn on each barrel to get through the emissions test.  Ran like a bag of spanners, but it got me through.  Needless to say the mixture was back to 'normal' within 5 minutes of passing...

MOT next week, first time on injection, so I'll be taking the laptop with me...

:D

You posted in the right area. Here or Techie Talk would have been OK. I was pointing you to the FAQ so that you A) Know we have one, and B) because you may find some of the other subjects useful too...
