O/T Digi Cameras (again)

I'm thinking about buying myself a new digi camera. It will be used for hobby stuff at sports events, in the garden, holidays etc.

Used to be into photography a bit when I was younger so I am looking at something a with a little more than point and click but still with point and click if that makes sense. A mate was using a Fuji S5000 at the weekend and was pleased with it. So I was thinking about the S5600.

I can get one del'd with a 1gB XD card and VAT  for £205. Anyone know why I shouldn't get that or consider another. They do seem to get a good write up for being an all-rounder.

Don't really want to spend any more than that.  :t-up:

I have the Kodak P850, 12x optical zoom and 5.1 megapixels, as opposed to the S5000 10x and 3.1.

Never had a moments problem with it, nice intuitive menu systems too.

You can pick the P850s up for around £190-200 and a 1gb mem card only costs around £20 nowadays.

I've got the Fuji S5500 (4mp predecessor to the 5600) I paid about £240 for it 18 months ago and am very happy with it. Excellent all rounder .

Have you tried a search :p

Are you wanting an SLR or a high res point 'n' shoot?

For me, SLR's start and end with the Nikon D70. The Canon EOS350 is as good. The new Nikon D50 is probably a good buy, but all of them are the wrong side of 400 quid, usually.

For a point 'n' shoot, have a look at Ebay item number 330012617945. A mate of mine is selling it and if it doesn't make good money, I'm buying it myself...

I'm a member of another rather underground forum and the Fuji S5600 is the most widely used camera in the sub dslr bracket, no one seems to be able to fault it, so I would highly recomend it. As for the Nikon D50 that'll be the camera I'll be purchasing in the near future, it's blinding.

I realise you don't want to spend any more, but my dad has a Panasonic FZ7 pro-sumer digi-camera. He's been using it for some months, and is extremely chuffed.

He has been into photography for 50+ years, even before SLR's and is gobsmacked by it's results, size and handling. It can be had now for £30 over your budget, but it will not fit into a shirt pocket :D

To my way of thinking, most digital cameras are capable of taking bl**** good pictures but:-

the biggest irritation is the time delay between pressing the button and the picture being taken!

So far only the true SLR cameras seem to have that problem solved.  Nikon D70 is awsome.

I couldn't agree more.

Save pennies and go for a digital SLR with a standard kit lens to begin with, you can always add lenses later

A D70/s or D50 will serve your needs. If you buy used, ensure the kit has been looked after well.

Had fuji's for the last 4 years now, very good colour capture and easy to use, optical zoom over digital is a must.

Only got 6x optical zoom on my fine pix, but it's been great for getting close to the action!

snaps I got at the superbikes with my fuji. (ok I blagged I was a photographer and got trackside acess for the first race) but it still takes great pics for a 2.1mp cam.
