Boomy Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Popped along with a few mates to a large open field used for remote control fanatics. We were a bit late though so a few people had packed up and gone. It was also bonkers windy so some of the stuff couldn't be flown anyway. The guys army chopper with the action men figures included was a no go for example. He owns around 20 helicopter models btw!. Anyway, a few pics and a bit of compressed video. Sadly my mates uber chopper had a problem so he had to use his other two, but we came home and fixed the problem later. The day was rounded off with kebabs and stuff and as the sun went down we took the Westy for a 1.00am cruise. Oh and check out how one guy brings along his plane strapped to a moped.A reason to get a "tug" if ever i saw it i'm sure Quote
Boomy Posted July 31, 2006 Author Posted July 31, 2006 A short bit of video footage of the day: SOME VIDEO Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 The Raptor is the same as Andy Terry runs at Plays-Kool msport. I'm going to Big aero modellers show at Rufforth in a couple of weeks(same weekend as harrogate KC show) looking forward to seeing some serious big models Buzz Quote

Boomy Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Call that flying a Helicopter, have a look at this - Awesome flying of a Rapter 1 in Vegas Raptor Video 4th one down I thought this would be utterly impossible for a chopper until i saw this vid Tigger Hunt around the net some more and there are flying demos that make that look tame. They do much the same but at such speed you simply can't follow the action with a camera very easily lol. There are a few guys who also go and play with that crowd i went to visit who can do all that stuff. But guess what, unless they are in competition they said it bores the tits off them Even one of the guys in the small vid clip i added can do various stunts, but as he said, he wants his helicopters to fly and look like helicopters. Two minutes of stunts and whizzing about like a nutter just bores him beause choppers just can't do that in real life. He has been flying for over 15 years so you can imagine what he is capable of. One of his smaller choppers for example he simply throws into the air, flys around a bit and then lands it back in his hand!. On another occasion i watched him hover the copter without it moving even so much as a millimeter as he examined something on it whilst in flight. He was saying one of the guys can run his helicopter upside down and so close to the ground that he can actually get mud onto the blades!. It's all clever stuff i agree, but it would seem many, even if capable of such things just don't want to fly that way unless they have to. Believe me though, if you have never tried to fly a remote chopper you can never appreciate how hard it is to undertake even the most basic moves. It's almost impossible to just get off the ground and keep it in one place, let alone move about, especially with the wind blowing a gale!. Quote
