Aeroscreen   Lighter, easier to fit, less buffeting, much, much better in rain than screen & no roof. Looks better, fitted mine this year, wish I'd done it before SVA & saved myself a few hundred quid

The buffeting is reduced even more if you fit half doors. side screens with an aero.

i quite like the westfield aeroscreens but would anyone recommend one for road use without an helmet, and cold but dry winter use

Personally I don't drive my aeroscreened car without a helmet any more. It was comfortable enough the couple of did, but I got hit my enough small stones to make me think twice about doing it in future.

Any decent sized stone that got flicked up and hit you on the forehead wouldn't be pleasant...

As Andy says stones (and insects) hitting can be unpleasant; but I must admit I've not worn my helmet much over the last couple of months. But decent eyeware/protection is a must.

is it possible to get maybe a taller aeroscreen which would give you better everyday protection but better aerodynamics over a standard glass screen  if not would it be worth looking into

For an aeroscreen to start giving you protection from flying stuff you'd have to be looking through it rather than over it. I imagine something this high would start to negate some of the benefits of the aeroscreen over the full windscreen.

I never drive my aeroscreened car with a helmet on (mainly cause i havent bought a new one yet) but i do always wear decent wrap-round sunglasses (to avoid the wind more than anything).  I dont often get hit by stuff but when it does happen you know about it!

Just as an aside, not having read the rest of the thread..  As a taller kinda person, I find the aero screens better than the windscreen.  The air over the top is similar, but there is MUCH less buffeting from around the sides of an aeroscreen than a windscreen.

so would everyone still recommend an aeroscreen without an helmet and for winter use

I would wholeheartedly recommend an aeroscreen, even in Winter. However, I rarely drive mine without a helmet.

I value my head too much, sorry. You only need one decent sized stone flicked up by a passing car and it could easily be very serious.

Also, the helmet keeps the cold air away from your head, and helps stop it getting too chilly. It's not that uncomfortable when it's hot either.

In winter, an aeroscreen is just fine (sometimes even better given the problems with rain and a windscreen). As long as you're wrapped up warm then winter driving is just fine.

I've owned two Westfields now, bought the first one in December and drove it at least once in every month I owned it. The second one had a screen, and I got it in November. Again, it got plenty of use in the first Winter I owned it.

It doesn't put the Welsh Wizard off either, and now we have an intercom we can even chat on the move :)

For winter use - what Andy said. My head was lovely and toastie warm last year, even blatting round Buxton and the Cat and Fiddle road with snow on the ground! Plus with grit on the roads, your for head will end up looking like a a zitty teenagers if you don't use anything!  :D
