neilwillis Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Just saw what I thought was the film of the year! The Fastest Indian. Burt Munro from NZ holds the world record - set at Bonneville in 1967 for the fastest streamlined bike under 1000cc. Check out the website! http://www.indianmotorbikes.com/features/munro/munro.htm Quote
Bryan C Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Glad you liked it - I saw the film a few weeks ago having been press-ganged by my CBR riding son,and now have the DVD which was released earlier this month. His garage looked a lot like mine with a shelf on my wall having "..offerings to the god of speed.." including a shattered clutch plate, various broken cables, hoses, pads etc etc. It just shows a good old un comes out on top every time. ( Must now get back to the Top Gear Cateringvan thread... I knew it would start something !!!! ) Regards Bryan C Quote
Yobbo Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 If anyone hasn't seen this it really is worth a look, a kind of true slow road movie for grown ups and older kids that builds as the film progresses as he finally gets to Bonneville (from New Zealand) on about a quarter of the budget we have on a bad year to run our cars. I took a date to see it and she loved it as did the girls in the office so there is something for SWMBO as well, although the stars of the film are undoubtedly Burt (Anthony Hopkins in maybe his best ever role) and his very old Indian motorcycle. Its amazing that his records have never been beaten for real as iirc his bike was at least 40 years old in the 60's Quote
peterg Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 Got the DVD and the book both brilliantly entertaining and a must see for all those who want to see a real enthusiast suceed Quote
Boomy Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I first watched this in March, i told a few other people about it and posted these words on another forum: "One of the most enjoyable and simplistic films i have ever seen. Many may not like it however, let's get that straight right from the off, but it captivated me from start to finish. It leads you down a path where due to your experience of other films, you assume you know what is about to happen, but are pleasantly suprised when it doesn't. If you ever had/have or knew of a 'Grandad' somewhere in the world who would rummage around in the garage/shed and appear 10 minutes later saying "...right, i can use the handle off of this old bucket to fix that broken cavalier wishbone..." and love such characters, you will enjoy this.It is a heart warming story of one mans goal and it tells his tale and lets you experience his no frills down to earth approach to all things in a ridiculously simple way. It makes you feel all warm inside to know 'oldskool' people such as this really exist in the world and if you ever met someone similar, they are people you never ever forget. Anthony Hopkins played this part so convincingly, i totaly forgot he was an actor.I was made to believe that he is just like this in real life and that this movie was about him and his life outside of film. Like i say though, to some this may just come across as boring, but if you find you are the type of film watcher who can have any kind of emotional connection with certain films, then this will not disappoint. My fave film for years." Quote
Pepi Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 I too watched this great film some weeks back and i must sat i really enjoyed it.... can't believe that the record that Burt set still stands, seems to me that with todays technology that record ought to be well and truly "trounced". Whats the betting that within the next couple of years someone, having seen the movie will do just that. i suppose it's a case of "watch this space". Quote
Perywinkle Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Just watched it last night with the better half, thought it was excellent Quote
neilwillis Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 What amazed me was reading the facts behind the film, he's even more ingenious than he appeared on celluloid. Quote
