langy Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 OK, tomorrow afternoon / evening i am driving from Peterborough to Exeter in the Xtreme According to the AA it's nearly 250 miles and should take 4 hours 22 minutes. However, i think the schools break up for summer (don't know i don't have kids), so the grockles will be out in force towing caravans and i have Avonmouth bridge drive over. So as a bit of fun, How long is it going to take ? Please vote now. Sean (I'll post up how long it actually when complete) Quote
ljsanders Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 I've driven severals time from Truro to Norwich... and that took 8 hours on a Friday afternoon. Seeing on a good day it can take 1.5 from Truro to Exeter and Peterborough to Norwich is a little over an hour. I reckon 5 to 6 hours is about right... the M4/M25 will be a pig I reckon. I don't envy you in the slightest!! Quote
peterg Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Most of the local schools broke up today so the roads will certainly be full of caravans etc tomorrow - luckily we're only going to Llandow (77 miles) and leaving before Noon I reckon 5.5 - 6 hours if you're lucky Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Autoroute says 4hrs 6min. But it's Microsoft so expect occasional lock-ups. Quote
Martin Keene Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Sean We have friends in Cumbria, and they are 260 miles away, that has taken nearly 6 hours before now on a Friday pm. I'd allow at least 6 hours, anything less will be a bonus... Quote
scruffythefirst Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 if its where i think it is, and your going on a friday it'll take forever. Don't forget your sunscreen though, got cooked on the way back from soton the other week. Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 You will be driving past my front door /weston s mare My office is in Newark so I drive the route quite often and I allow 4 hrs for the journey exeter is 50 mins further south but as it is killer friday you better leave NOW. Joking aside the roadworks on the split levels between avonmouth and clevedon are all finished so you know have 4 lanes going up to the split levels how it will cope tomorrow is anybodys guess I would allow between 5-6 hrs anything quicker is a bonus. Good Luck Quote
markcoopers Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Oundle to the folks home in Bampton devon 2hours 45 minuets, so under 3hours if you get the hammer down. Top tip from living in bristol, if the traffic is bad around the M4/M5 interchange and south to the bridge, head towards Wales on the M4. Take the M49 at the new Wales bridge backt avon mouth and you join at the bridge and miss all the cues behnd you. Quote

As for the sunscreen, it's already in the car The plan is to do the whole journey without the doors on however, SWMBO may disagree Quote
