cng1 Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I organised a bulk buy of shift-i shiftlights that someone else here recommended here for my local crowd and we're all pretty chuffed with them. As a result there has been a load more interest so I'm organising another bulk buy of them. These are the things: All the setup is done through the front panel buttons and the LEDs auto-dim depending on light conditiongs, there's half a dozen or so different display modes from moving dots, to the bar graphs style in the animation through to night rider style effects. Basically they're really stonkingly nice units for sensible money. Installation is just a matter of connecting up the 3 wires to the back of the rev counter, they come with connectors to tee in so it takes all of 5 minutes to install. In the bulk buy there are two options, the "straight" style which is what most people seem to have gone for to date and the "curved" style which is designed to fit around a standard speedo/rev counter. Cost, all inclusive is 72 pounds delivered to your door with all customs etc paid. If you would like to part of the bulk buy then all you have to do at this stage is let me know "straight" or "curved" in an email to chris@g2.nu by the weekend. After that there will be a call for payment with delivery 7-10 days after the payment window closes. Any questions let me know. Chris Quote
dern Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 If I was further along with the build of my locost I'd have one as they look great. Is that an R6 tacho? They must sound fantastic at 19000 rpm. Regards, Mark Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Anybody from the westfield club bought one of these Buzz Quote
cng1 Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 It was someone raving about them here having bought one that got me interested and hence buying mine. FWIW on L16COS I've got mine mounted on my steering wheel. Quote
cng1 Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Ahh, found the post that originally put me onto the shift-i: http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=3;t=35715 Quote
samcooke Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Picked mine up Monday night. Looks nice, plenty of instructions with it, but haven't done owt yet to install yet - it's on the sofa over there -> Hope to have it fitted Thursday. IMVHO and with an utter lack of electronics knowledge, they seem to be a quality product for a cheapo price. Quote
cng1 Posted July 11, 2006 Author Posted July 11, 2006 Sam, just got back from my first serious run with the shiftlight in place, boy does it make a difference as I can now completely ignore the tacho and keep my eyes on the road. Even with the shiftlight mounted on the steering wheel it's still sufficiently in your peripheral vision to not need to divert your gaze. The auto-dimming also got a workout as I came home in the dark and that worked superbly too. Quote
oioi Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 chris - do you know if i could power these through the Megasquirt? i dont have a tacho, and this would be an ideal replacement Quote
cng1 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Not sure why you want to power it via the megasquirt, but you can certainly connect the input to the unit straight up to the MS, you just want to use +ve and -ve from the loom. If you don't have a tacho all you do is connect the red and black +ve wire to a switched positive under the dash (a green wire usually), the all black earth wire to a black wire, then the black and blue input wire to the tacho output from the megasquirt. oioi Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 the version of MS'n'SE i have doesnt seem to have a tacho output? hence ive got no rev counter... Quote
cng1 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 You're using edis aren't you. In which case you just connect up to pin 11 of the EDIS module which is a clean tacho output. If you're not using EDIS then you want to read this: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/tachopin.html Quote
oioi Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 are im using 23 so this is a later version think ill worry about this in *awhile* or i might just redo the dash and have shift lights and no tacho Quote
cng1 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 You're using EDIS though aren't you? In which case black wire to black wire, red wire to red wire and the blue on to pin 11 on the edis module. If you want to leave a flying lead in there to let you connect a tacho up as well later on then that's would make life easier. Quote
oioi Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 nope not using edis, using wasted spark and Vx coil pack Quote
cng1 Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Save your current map files, upload the latest firmware (23 is getting quite old these days) and get it going or alternatively you should be able to connect one side of the coil to the input for the shift light and just double/halve the shiftlight multiplier as necessary.
