Nearly Ready For SVA (at last!!)

Recommended Posts

Well, after hundreds of calls to the Westfield parts department and technical helpline the car is almost finished and ready for the SVA  :t-up:

Just got to sort out those spongey brakes, set up all the suspension, start the engine, test the lights and cover everything for the SVA.

Tigger will soon be able to rest easy on a night time :D

Photos below show car in it's current brake bleeding and cycle wing stage.

P.S. Sorry about the half naked lady on the poster in the background, I have only just realised.  :D

Should also say a big than you to all other people on the forum who have given me help and advice  :t-up:

Cheers (hopefully it will pass the SVA, otherwise I'm sure there'll be more posts for help :)    )

Thanks, it's been a bit difficult at times, this is the first time I have done anything like this!!!  I do appreciate the help I get on the forum and owe Tigger about 20 pints for all his help :D

I know people have different opinons on what should be expect building a kit car, but with the money I've spent on this I did feel a bit let down. I should have had the car on the road 5 or 6 weeks ago, but have been held up for parts quite a lot. I can see the nice weather vanishing fast.  :(

Don't get me wrong Westfield are very helpful, parts dept and technical will do all they can, but they just seem to have problems with forward planning and lead in time for parts.

As for doing it again.... I probably would, now I have my new found knowledge of bodging.

If I could give some advice to anyone just starting a build it would be..... Always use plenty of masking tape when making holes and filing body panel, never use a sharp drill bit and when drilling large holes in the body start small and work up in increments (even if it does take lots of extra time (leason learnt the hard way).

Another handy tip I can give is for the front cycle wing mountings. I have heard they can be prone to cracking an deforming at the bolt holes, so have just bought some 20mm wide thin aluminium strip (anodised dark brown, available from B&Q for under a fiver) and have stuck it to the underside of the arch (over the bolt holes) with araldite super glue (you just need to rough each surface up first). It work brilliantly and really stiffens the fixing area. I have then mounted the arch on top of some dense foam strip.

Looks really good. Well done.

Time now, I think, to change your avatar to be your proper car.

Hey Luke, it's looking real sweet now, love the colour scheme as already mentioned.

As for the pints, :D Can't wait to meet you, just make sure you have your wallet handy  ;)  ;)  :D

Best of luck with the SVA but from the build quality I've seen so far, you shouldn't have any problems

BTW: Always happy to help another Westfield owner as are others on this forum, you just happened to pick on me

Or just stick them on with Sikaflex or similar... ;) No bolt holes - no cracking...

Looks tidy -and the Westfield!

I know quality workmanship when I see it in action  :D

I thought I may as well post other photos, so you can see the full job.

I'd been considering having a the Jordan wasp / hornet graphic done for the bonnet, but wasn't sure where to find one (had a look on google, but couldn't find anything big enough :(

Looks good, like the colour scheme, very similar to mine strangely, glad to hear you finally got all your parts.

Sadly still waiting for a few for mine!

That would be the Jordan EJ10 (circa 2000) then.

I'm sure if you took a picture of it into a good vinyl graphics studio they could knock one up for you .... suspect it would cost though?
