IIRC (I haven't used the Nikon software recently) there's an option in one of the tools menus to display the histogram. Photoshop also has an option to view the histogram, again IIRC. It's one of my favourite weapons for analysing what was different between two seemingly similar shots...

Only top end DSLR's (pro bodies) give what I would call an acceptable shutter lag.

Not these days, certainly the D70/S and D50 have no discernable lag, and these are not top end pro bodies. Can't speak for Canon as I don't use them but I guess they are the same.

The D2X is admittedly very fast in this area, I used it at Pembrey in high speed crop, on continuous high and had to turn it back to single shot as it was rattling off 10 or so shots before I could think to take my finger off the shutter release... 8fps, sounds like a machine gun goin off in ya hand :):):)

It's what you are used to I suppose.  :t-up:

The D70s I have used didn't seem laggy at all. Boots up fast too. I was snapping away at the outside of the first turn at Curborough and I got what I think are some pretty good shots, considering it's the first time I've used an SLR for about 5 years. I discovered (my limited amateur skills notwithstanding) that what worked for a wet film SLR also works for a digital SLR, so I just need to dust off the rust a bit... :t-up:
