ljsanders Posted August 14, 2006 Author Posted August 14, 2006 Oops, actually I made that sound a bit wrong didn't I :-) I was only joking of course, I just forgot to put the smiley on. I certainly don't mind. Most of us have to drive a fair distance to get there and have had to take the at least part of the day off work as well. But we will all get on the rollers regardless of which order we go in. If anyone else needs to disappear off early or expresses a preference to what time they want to get on, let me know. I think Trevor Clarke who's coming from Newport has also said he'd like to get on as early as possible. or heres a Multimap Janspeed Performance Exhaust Systems Limited Castle Works Castle Road Salisbury Wiltshire SP1 3RX See you all Friday and hope the weather behaves itself. You might want to bring a car cover with you because I'm not sure what the parking facilities are like. Lee Quote
Willow Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 That's OK then - I was really worried that I'd come across as a pushy little madam. I didn't mean to, and do appreciate that pretty much everyone else will also have to take time off work. I was thinking partly of Trevor when I said that others may prefer a later timeslot if they have a long way to come, but he's obviously an earlier riser than me to be aiming to get there for 9am from Wales! I guess he'd prefer to be making his return journey home before the Friday exodus to the Westcountry on the M4. Thanks for the maps - looks from Multimap that Janspeed is sometime just after a church on the right hand side, so at least there's a landmark to look out for. See you Friday. Judging by the weather forecast, I'll be bringing not only my cover, but my roof, sidescreens, waterproofs, umbrella, inflatable boat , rubber duck etc etc Quote
Leon B Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Lee - can you get loads of pictures for the website please, I'm not going to be able to make it due to work. Thats what happens when you take the previous Friday off for a track day Good luck to everyone, post up your power and torqure figures. I'll add them to the member details section on the site. Quote

Leon B Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I couldnt possibly do that! What a terrible attitude to take Good luck Rachel Quote
BournemouthRoyal Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Does the rolling road start 'rolling' at 9.00am? Cheers Richard Quote
ljsanders Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 The place opens at 9am, so I'd expect the first car to be on soon after. I hope the weather isn't as crap as it was this morning. Driving up the M27 this morning, even at 50mph I could hardly see a thing. I dont have any weather gear on my car except for side screens. Tomorrow is supposed to be a bit more showery, I hope. Quote
GaryD Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Well done lee, really enjoyed it shame more people didn't turn up. Hope you all got as wet as me on the way home (only joking). Quote
ljsanders Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 Yeah, we had a great time. Thanks for everyone turning up. No casualties, I think everyone knows they've got a bit of work to do, which is the whole point of doing RR sessions is to squeeze that extra bit out of your engine. LOL. I got a bit damp going through Salisbury, but once on the M27 it was fine. Then the heavens opened as I got within about a mile of home and got wet again. I think Janspeed have been very accommodating towards us and I thoroughly recommend them. Unlike other companies who didn't seem to care at all. We even got a guided tour of the factory. Its a shame they couldn't do a coast-down test to get BHP at the flywheel (machine was broken) but I'm not that bothered to be honest, although I think one or two were. If you can get there before 3pm, they will still do your car. Heres my print out. Obvious thing here is that the power continues to rise beyond the rev.limiter. It seems like (as I suspected a little while ago) my rev limiter is set at 6k RPM. 122bhp &107 torque at the wheel. I make that about 150 ish at the flywheel. So I think that answers my problem, I'm used to the power and so I need some more!! Right, I'm off to work out to the change my rev limiter setting. That should get me another few bhp. Quote
Phil. S Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Very nice meeting everyone this morning, and many thanks to Lee for organizing this. I have to confess that I was one of the people bothered by the fact they could only provide figures at the wheels, since I've no idea how much I lose in the transmission. (This is in no way a criticism of Lee.) Still, I was more interested in where the power peaked and how rich it was running and at what revs. This wasn't as bad as I feared (judging from the colour of the plugs). It seems to be running rich only between 3 and 4,000 rpm. On the two runs I achieved 135.4bhp/145.8 lb/ft torque and 139 bhp/136.4lb/ft. These seemed a little low to me for an XE, but if I was losing 30bhp in the transmission, I guess they are what I would expect with clockwork ignition and carbs in desperate need of a refurb. (I've got the kit.) The figures compared well with the busa engined Westy there, so nothing to complain about really. I got completely soaked on the way home. Quote
ljsanders Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 No worries Phil, sorry it couldn't have been better for you. The rolling road itself has miles of ground clearance though. Its a 4-wheel drive road capable of handling 1000bhp per roller. The rollers are sticking out of the ground rather than a traditional embedded in the ground style. So Richard with his V8 rear-exit silencer would have got on there no trouble. The guys seemed pretty knowledgable as well, so they gave us a bit of advice each. However, I dont think they can do remaps for all ECU's, ie. I asked if they could do a remap for my MBE ECU I have on my Zetec. After all they are a Superchips dealer, so I think Superchips would be a bit annoyed if Janspeed started selling remaps for other ECU's or doing custom inhouse remaps. Forgot to mention, there is a car show at Janspeed on Saturday 16th September. Going to be a mixture of marques and Kathryn at Janspeed has asked us if we'd like to go. I'm not sure what I'm doing on that date yet, so I'll think about it. But if anyone is interested, phone Kathryn on 01722 342084 if you want to book. Its completely free and I think its for charity or something. Quote
Willow Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 Mine was 108bhp and 118 max torque. I was hopeful for anything over 100bhp, so not bad. The car's running rich though, so the Janspeed guys thought I could easily get a few more horses by sorting that problem out. The weather was quite kind to me on the way home, but the spray was bad. Unfortunately one of the blades on my wipers started to detach itself and I was worried it would come off completely, so I could only afford myself the luxury of clearing the windscreen every couple of minutes or so which was quite amusing.
