I’ve been a bit suspicious about my 2nd Westy’s power claims, so I am very keen to get it

on the rollers. Earlier this year there was a lot of interest at the Hants & Wilts meet in having a Rolling Road

Day/Shoot Out, similar to the day at EFI Performance in 2005.

This year I’d like to arrange the day to be at Janspeed in Salisbury www.janspeed.com.

I gave Janspeed a call earlier this week. They do a lot of car club rolling road days and were very interested

in letting the Westfield girls and boys come along.

This will give you the perfect chance to find out what bhp and torque your car is putting out and highlight any

performance issues with your car before you splash out on track days. It will allow you to see if you have a problem

before coughing up serious money for tuning work.

The event will be for a morning or afternoon or for however long as many people who come. The cost is around

25ukp based on about 8 cars coming, for this you get your car on the rollers, bhp/torque output and a printout

and a bit of advice for increasing power. This is just a bhp/torque output day, there won’t be any tuning.

This is very reasonable for the money.

The only caveat is that Janspeed, because they are very popular with the car clubs and to prevent annoying

the neighbours, they can only do every other weekend, so they are fully booked up at weekends until November.

However they can do during the week easily at 2 to 3 weeks notice. This obviously means taking time off work

for most of you.

Whilst the weather is nice, I’d like to arrange this as soon as possible. Say in about a month’s time?

Approx End of July, beginning of August.

Can you please email or phone me if you are interested and when would be best for you?

Rolling Road Days are a good laugh, educational and will give you a chance to watch some engines blow up!

(Only joking of course J ).

The more people who come along the better the day and the lower the cost will be.

I’ve had a lot of response to the Rolling Road Day, via email and at the club meet last Sunday.

Sorry its taken me a while to get back to you, I’ve been waiting as long as possible for people to email me.  About 12 people said, yep, they were up for it… in fact, that’s almost everyone I spoke to said they were up for it and that they could do mid-week.

The general consensus is that Friday is best for almost everyone. Mornings preferably, mid-ish August isn’t that good for a few people, but the week or two either side works best.

I spoke to Janspeed today and I have some dates, I promised Catherine at Janspeed to give her an answer early next week about the date we would like.

Friday 28th July

Friday 4th August

Friday 18th August

Friday 1st September.  – Might not be popular because it’s the day before Westfield Live.

Unfortunately the 25th August was booked at Janspeed, and I can’t do the 8th September (I have a work course on).

Its pay on the day. No money up front. The other common question asked was ground clearance, they said shouldn’t be a problem, they had a Westfield club a few weeks ago and everyone got on ok.

So if you could all let me know as soon as possible what date is best for you and a 2nd preferred date.

The sooner the better. Then I’ll take a vote on the most popular date.

Post your reply here, or email me.

Ok its confirmed.

Sorry to John Ewbank who said that you could only make

1st September. Out of all the replies I got, most people said they could make 18th August either as their 1st or 2nd choice, or they could make any date.

9am Friday 18th August

Hi Lee

Just wondering - how are the timeslots allocated on the day? Unfortunately I have to work in the afternoon, so I'd really like my car to get on the rolling road in the morning if possible please? Not saying I have to be first by any means - but before lunch would be great.

On the other hand, there may be people who would prefer the afternoon for what ever reason (have to work in the morning; prefer a lie in; don't want to drive in the rush hour; have a long way to travel from Newport etc)? They could turn up later in the day if they knew that they were going to be later on the road?

Just a thought....although maybe Janspeed have a certain way of doing things? Someone told me that they normally sort the lower power cars first?

Cheers, Rachel

Hi Rachel,

To be honest, I'm not sure. Like you say, sometimes they do it lowest power first, But I'm sure if you arrived and said I have to be out of here by XXam, we could make sure you are one of the first to get on the rollers first. I know it might be considered pushing in, but I'm sure people wouldn't mind.

Or you could give Kathryn a call on: 01722 342084

mention you are doing the RR day on Friday and ask them?

I'm going to aim to get there for 9am myself.

Cheers,

Lee

Thanks Lee

I really don't want to look like I'm being pushy. :(

I'm aiming for 9am too, and am not fussed if I don't get on the rolling road in the first few - I'm not intending to rush in, insist on being first, then leave. I want to see how other people's cars get on and have a chat to everyone. It's a social event as much as anything.

I do need to be in work by about 1pm though as we're short staffed, so it does mean that I need to leave by about 12.30pm if I possibly can.

See you Friday.

Rachel
