Edo Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 Before you ask, I'm not on commission! This looks like a good bit of kit, and has had some good reviews... http://www.blackspot.com/ Quote

DavidBirchZEI220 Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 I've always been sceptical about these database derived products. My brother has a radar detector an only about 1 in 5 roadside units seem to be 'live'. It wouldd be annoying to get 'false' warnings for all these. I think they only have good application with the dawning of new technology devices that are passive - i.e do not emit a detectable signal. Quote
SEiGHT Posted June 5, 2002 Posted June 5, 2002 You need to remember that it won't detect mobile cameras, and that it works on position so you will get alerts for cameras on the other side of the road and perhaps even side streets depending on how accurate the GPS is at that time. GPS accuracy will vary depending on weather and line-of sight to sufficient satellites for a good "fix" IMO, none of these products are a replacement for keeping an eye on the road and driving sensibly. If you can't spot the camera and slow down in time, how were you ever going to avoid that tractor / small child / old granny / broken down c a t e r h a m / etc. ? OK, I accept some cameras are deliberately hidden but you'd know where they are if you'd driven the road before. And if you haven't driven the road before, what the devil are you speeding you idiot ! Would you blast round Silverstone at top speed on your first ever lap ? No, so why do people think they can do this on public roads ? Drive it a couple of times, learn the road, then hammer the f**k out of the car round the bends Quote
Edo Posted June 5, 2002 Author Posted June 5, 2002 I have a Bel radar detector which is good, and as you say shows that many Gatso's are not on.. It does however go off a bit with false alarms from building alarms and stuff, which can be a bit annoying.. Quote
