JonZet Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Hi everybody. Just bought Triggsy's 2.0 Zetec. Membership form in the post today Enjoying the car in the few miles I've had time to do. Going on a trackday in a mate's car tomorrow at Bedford (full now so too late to take the Westy ) and this will give me a chance to get a noise reading - seems quite loud at full chat so I'll be interested to see. Booked in for an evening at Snetterton on 6th July. I've only done the track on TOCA so it should be a big learning experience in a new car ... Quote
adhawkins Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Doing anything this weekend? A run to Curborough would be an excellent start to your Westfield ownership Welcome! Andy Quote
Telski Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Welcome! You got yourself a very nice car there! Looks and sounds awesome! Hope you have a great summer with loads of blats! Telski Quote
adhawkins Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Well, at least you've had decent weather since your purchase Then again, I bought my first Westfield at the beginning of December, and used it every month in the 18 months or so that I owned it Andy Quote
Lurksalot Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Booked in for an evening at Snetterton on 6th July. I've only done the track on TOCA so it should be a big learning experience in a new car ... I learned most of the uk circuits using toca on the PS1 and it is surprisingly accurate . anyway ..... Welcome to what is both the font of all knowledge and the mother of all madhouses Quote
felters Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 Welcome to the party... The problem at Bedford is the driveby testing around the circuit. The static test that they do in the carpark when you arrive isn't going to give you much help. It's the induction roar at full chat out on the track that'll get you thrown off. Have a good day! Quote
JonZet Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 Thanks Felters. Wondering if I can blag a lap to check... Quote
JonZet Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 Well, managed to blag 3 laps as long as we promised to leave the car we paid for in the pits I did everything I could to be noisy (& it is - sounds glorious ). One meter is very near the track so I went by it twice at 6500rpm in 3rd and as near as I could get. Got black flagged for 88db at that meter. Limit 87db IIRC. Didn't trip anything else so I am sure that it would be possible to lap Bedford all day long in it using a few rpm less in the appropriate places. TBH, the engine gives it's best a bit lower down so no real reason exceed 6000. I had a static test done independently at 1m distance and 45 degrees off: 99db. At Bedford they measured 100.1db (limit 101db). This second measurement was done fairly quickly and is over the top I think: My mates 98db Caterham was 99db all of a sudden on the same day! I realise these results ban me from Goodwood (and Castle Combe IIRC) but they are OK for Snetterton, Brands and Bedford which are my 3 'local' ones so I'll leave it all as is. Analysing the noise under acceleration, I reckon there is more induction noise than exhaust. Love it! Bedford track pic here. Quote
