Molydood Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Hi all, I have a canon mv500i camcorder and notice that wind noise is a big issue when recording from inside a moving car. However, I have noticed that the pro cameras have wind socks (those furry long things) to prevent this being a problem. I was wondering if anybody knows of a simple modification that can be used to improve the situation for my fairly cheap camcorder. Maybe an external mic is the way to go? Or can I just put some material over the mic on the camcorder to improve things? Cheers, Martin Quote
dern Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 I tried this with a bit of camping mat but the camera helpfully amplified the wind noise so I could hear it and added some distortion presumably because it was having to amplify it so much. Your best bet, I think, is to use an external mic and put it in the passenger foot well so it's out of the wind. Can't do that with mine sadly as it has no external mic socket Regards, Mark Quote
Molydood Posted June 21, 2006 Author Posted June 21, 2006 bums I am not even sure if mine has an external mic socket, and I know for a fact I have no idea where to get a mic from Maybe I can take the camcorder apart and wire the mic externally if I don't have a socket for one. well done for trying it though :-) Quote
Robandcolin Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 I got a good stereo mic from Sony centre for mine. It cost about 15 quid and has its own external battery powered amplifier. You have to remember to turn it on though Rob Quote
Molydood Posted June 23, 2006 Author Posted June 23, 2006 hehe thanks for the tips, I will buy an external mic I think Quote
