adamnreeves Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 I think I may have a problem. I was continuing my install of fuel and brake lines under the car and something dawned on me. I had not drilled the seat bolt holes out yet. Whoops very close to the lines. I tried a M10 bolt with standard washer and I can just about get a socket over the bolt to turn it, i.e. the bolt at the apex of the hex is about 2mm from the line. I guess this is okay for SVA. A standard washer fits in okay. But I done some searching and noticed that the washers installed under the nuts are quite large (I haven't got my seats yet) so I tried a repair washer for fit and it touches the underside of one of my fuel lines, can I simply use a smaller washer or will this be an SVA issue? I guess I could put washers between my p-clip bolts on the line to open up the gap between the floor and line and then the over size washer on the seat mount will slip under the line. Quote
nikpro Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Adam, you need the large repair washers on the seat mounting bolts. Quote
adamnreeves Posted June 13, 2006 Author Posted June 13, 2006 So I guess my next question is along the lines of if it is permissible to have the fuel line running over the edge of the repair washer if I put a small washer between my p-clip so that the line does not come into contact with the repair washer. smithydar Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 i think as long as the pipe isnt in contact with anything you should be ok. hth darren Quote
SIMON.G. Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 why dont you get a piece of small rubber tubing and split it and cover the brake pipe near the mounting bolt Quote

Or re-run the offending pipe so it isn't so close. Quote

Having managed to ground mine heading up towards the Cat & Fiddle road, (there's some wicked dips and crests near the humpback bridges), I've managed to bend the rearmost sets of seat mounting bolts. If there'd been a pipeline near, it could well have been caught by the bolt. Quote

Good idea with the rubber tubing but I think I would do that after SVA as it might look like I am trying to hide something or demonstrated that it is too close, bring attention to it. It is a good 3mm away I can get as socket over the M10 bolt. The edge of the repair washer is close, well it was, tonight I put two m4 washers under all my p-clips and actually I think that is a good idea as I noticed when the floor flexes it makes contact with the lines between the p-clips anyway. I would like to re-route the lines to be totally satisfied but I do not want all the holes. I originally wanted to route the lines thru the transmission tunnel but not having my gearbox, prop-shaft, etc I thought it is bound to fowl with something later in the build. So I am intending to move at a later date and then my floor would look like a sieve! My next concern it that my edgemost line will be about 7cm from the edge of the chassis, I think where the body attaches is upto 4cm from the edge so I should have 3cm spare ? Why didn't I just go down the middle! I was trying to be clever and keep as far away as possible from the exhaust! Quote
Mitchamidilly Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 If you are using the type 9 box there is plenty of room to go down the tunnel. The only really tricky bit I found was getting past the diff as I had already fitted it. Mitch Quote

I think it has to follow the lower chassis rail which I believe would be right next to the downpipe from the exhaust headers which come down on both sides. Quote
