Nick M Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 1996 Westfield SEiW – built from a kit by me between May and August 1996. The engine is from a Vauxhall Corsa GSi (1.6 16v) producing around 185bhp and was completely stripped and rebuilt before it was fitted to the car in 2002. The car has covered a little over 23,000 miles from new and the new engine, etc. a little over 7,000. I have every invoice for every part on the car (plus a few old ones besides) and copious amounts of paperwork – instructions, registration correspondence, etc. Detailed spec is as follows: Steering : • Cat Motorsport quick rack – 2.2 ratio, reduced to 1.9 with lock stops • EN3B steering column with no steering lock / ignition barrel • Racetech quick release boss / suede steering wheel Suspension – Front : • AVO adjustable dampers (steel) with spherical bearings • 9” springs – 275lbs • Cortina cast iron uprights (powder coated) • Cat Motorsport aluminium hubs • Poly bushed lower wishbones – standard track • Rose-jointed upper wishbones – standard track • (these allow fine tuning of camber and castor angles) Suspension – Rear : • AVO adjustable dampers (steel) with spherical bearings • 10” springs – 180lbs • Poly bushed upper and lower wishbones • Westfield cast aluminium uprights • Westfield modified Ford Sierra driveshafts Brakes – Front : • Fluke Motorsport lightweight discs • Outlaw M-16 4 pot aluminium calipers • Hawk HP Plus brake pads • Aeroquip steel braided brake lines Brakes – Rear : • Fluke Motorsport lightweight discs • Sierra 4x4 calipers • Red Stuff brake pads Brakes – General : • AP large bore master cylinder (13/16” bore) • Aeroquip steel braided hose throughout the car – no solid pipes • Wilwood brake bias valve Engine : • 1600cc 16 valve Vauxhall Ecotec engine (from early Vauxhall Corsa Gsi – it had completed approximately 38,000 miles before it was completely rebuilt by myself and my father in 2002) • Bottom end completely balanced by Gosnays – crank, flywheel, clutch, pulleys, rods, pistons, etc. • Standard crank (main and rod journals planished prior to assembly) – safe to 9,5000rpm per SBD • Arrow steel con rods • Omega forged “high top” pistons (block bored / honed by Gosnays to 79.05mm specifically for new pistons) • Lightened and balanced standard flywheel • Helix uprated clutch cover • Helix sprung paddle clutch • Cable clutch release mechanism • Inlet camshaft – 11mm Lift 278 degrees duration • Exhaust camshaft – 11.4mm Lift 284 degrees duration • Vernier cam pullies • Standard valves (individually hand lapped and sealed) • Uprated valve springs (head machined for valve spring and cam clearance – no further work would be required to fit wilder cams) • Titanium valve caps • Uprated hydraulic cam followers (retained for ease of maintenance compared to solid cam followers and shimming) – safe to 8,300rpm per SBD • Uprated steel cambelt pullies • New water pump • New bearings, fasteners, seals and gaskets throughout • Rolling road mapped by Pro-Tune in Barnet and consistently seen to produce 150bhp plus at the rear wheels (approximately 180-185bhp at the flywheel) on super-unleaded petrol Oil system : • SBD / Pace dry sump system – sealed type so engine breathers have been removed / sealed • “Slim Jim” oil pump • Low profile cast aluminium sump pan with dual scavenges (filtered) • Crank pulley dowel-pinned to crank to prevent slippage • Risbriger “Cool-tec” aerospace spec oil filter • Motec 19 row oil cooler • SBD dry sump tank • Motec aluminium oil catch tank • Aeroquip FC322 hose used throughout (with heat shielding in places) • Aeroquip / Speedflow -10 and -12 push-on type aluminium fittings used throughout Fuel system : • Westfield fuel injection type tank – powder coated black • Pre-pump filter (push on fittings) • High pressure fuel pump • Pre injector fuel filter (-6 fittings) • Jenvey fuel rail • 45mm Jenvey individual throttle bodies • Jenvey intake manifold (matched to throttle bodies and head) • Bosch “cream” injectors (uprated Siemens injectors have been purchased but not yet fitted / mapped) • Billet aluminium fuel pressure regulator • Aeroquip FC322 hose used throughout • Aeroquip / Speedflow -6 push-on type aluminium fittings used throughout • ITG foam air filter • MBE 967 ECU and custom loom, running wide-band, closed-loop lambda control and barometric pressure sensor. It doesn't have mentally hard suspension, it's not got rose-jointed suspension all round, it has sensible gearing, etc. What it does have is lots of bits to make it light, yet reliable, and easy to maintain. It's a nice car to drive slowly and 'enthusiastically' !! Price is £10,995 ono. Best suggestion, given how busy I am with work at the moment, would be to drop me an e-mail or PM via this site and I'll get back to you with my mobile number as soon as I can. Thanks for looking Nick
Mark Stanton Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Now you put it up for sale ................. wish you'd have done it 2 years ago Good Luck Nick
Nick M Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 Cheers. I should be at Curborough later this month if anyone fancies a look at the car.
juansolo Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 It really is a lovely car... ...and if you can't afford his, you could always buy mine!
Englishman - Abroad Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Nick Do you want to sell any of the spares separately? As I have same Engine / Car am interested. Give me a call on my mobile 07711 795887. Concur above comments this is a great car. Simon.
Nick M Posted August 1, 2006 Author Posted August 1, 2006 Back to the top, seeing as no b******* seems even vaguely interested Might be time to look at breaking it up and selling it in bits, except I can't be done with the hassle....
Asterix Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 A promise kept. I picked this car up on Saturday and *thrashed* it around Bruntingthorpe. A couple of minor issues to be rectified but other than that it is a top car and a testament to the skills of both Nick and Ian. Again, many thanks to Nick and Ian for delivering it, hope to see you guys around in 2008 (and I'll try not to use the helpline for idiot questions too much).
Scottish Bloke Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Nice Car Peter, I think from memory I considered buying this about two years ago, then I stumbled accross the duck mobile. good luck with it mate Jocksport
Mark Stanton Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Top car - do me a favour Pete - sod off onto slicks please
Nick M Posted October 28, 2007 Author Posted October 28, 2007 and *thrashed* it around Bruntingthorpe Yes, didn't you just !! 20 litres of fuel added BEFORE lunchtime (on top of the tankful it arrived with !! ) was testament to that !! You certainly seemed to be enjoying it and keeping up with bigger engined cars. Look after it, and make sure you clean up in the Speed Series next year
Asterix Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 Look after it, and make sure you clean up in the Speed Series next year oh. no pressure then Let's hope the driver matches the car. Beyond that, who knows.
