hi mate please can you provide the link i can't find any mate.

there are a couple of busas for big money, some car engined ones and a kawasaki engined one that was on here but that has sold.

I may be looking in the wrong section  :D

I didn't look through all the ads...

I should have said "Several Westfields on find it. Have a shufty"...

Don't rule out the Autotarder, Exchange and Mart, Pistonheads, racedandrallied.co.uk, the For Sale sections downstairs, and any other kit car sites that Google may throw up.

I have been looking mate believe me!!

have the cash and its burning a hole in my pocket!

I need a spare car to put private plates on as i buy and sell them - think im just going to have to cut my losses and get something else  :(

I don't understand. What precisely do you want a Westfield for?

Blatman.

Basically I have an expensive car that I use every day - I always need a cheaper 'spare' in the garage to put private plates on and then take them off so they are in retention on my name.

Anyone who is into private plates will know what i mean.

Secondly, I want a westie to take to track days and blat around in!!! This is obviously the most important reason!!!!

I don't want to keep switching the plates on my daily driver as it already has a great plate on which everyone knows me by.

That's why it can't be a Q reg as you can't put private plates on them mate!!

cheers

Well you've got me confused anyway :D

I had an idea it was something like that.

Why don't you simply keep the plates on retention certs?

Or, buy a scrap Honda C90 or A N Other moped for as cheap as you can, keep the log book but "dispose" of the useless bike, and swap the numbers on that? Takes up no space, it can be declared as sorn, so no road tax ever, and no insurance or running costs, just profit...

basically a sorn vehicle can't have its plates changed.

a car needs MOT and tax. To get tax on it you need insurance.

Insurance is cheap on a westie - almost as cheap as a s***ty scooter, so I would rather have a westie to play with rather than spend £200 on a scooter that i wouldn't get pleasure out of.

If you buy a plate of a private guy you become a 'nominee' which means he still has a right to the plate. Therefore to get it solely in your name it needs to go on a car belonging to you and then you can take it off and put it on retention in your own name!!!!!!!!!!!!

hope i have clarified things.

I had a few concours cars that i put the plates on but sometimes they don't get re-issued with the original plates and to concours buffs they don't like that as all the documentation is for another number plate even though its the same car. Also they claim it loses 'originality'!!!!!

:p

but perhaps the main reason that is so obvious I forgot to mention it is that i am dying to get behind the wheel of a screaming 12,000 RPM monster and take it to track days!!!

I am a car buff at heart but if im getting a westie anyway I may as well get one that I can put plates on which saves me getting another car etc

b*******. I guess the rules have changed, or I never understood them properly. Mind you, I haven't looked at the private plate thing since the 80's...

Back to searching for a current plate BEC then...

yeah im on with 2 at the moment mate, but I don't really want to spend more than £9,000 on a blade. I do think its fair money for one so im keeping my eyes peeled

If I could get a bird or busa for a little more I would like one, but being realistic they are going to be almost out of my price range.

Im a first time westie buyer so don't really see the need on spending mega bucks on a fully specced up one - I think I would be better if i built up to it. Or is that just daft!!  :)

IMHO, I'd avoid a 'Bird unless it's dry sumped. They have a bit of a reputation for going pop, and whether it is deserved or not, there is enough apochryphal evidence for me to feel that if I was in the market for a BEC, I wouldn't want a 'Bird.

As for working up to a better spec, we all do, no matter what the starting point. Buying one as close to the spec you want is always best in the long run. It'll be worth taking a few weeks to narrow down what you want rather than rushing in, blowing your budget and then finding out that the car isn't what you expected.

thanks blatman that's kind of you to give your advice.

I know what you mean about getting one with the right spec, but they are hard to come across so if you are too picky then you will never find one that fits your spec.

I think I definitely want a bec as i want it to rev loads - i love honda s2000's if thats any comparison.  Not too bothered about torque either as long as it flies once the revs pick up.

I also think bec's look far better than a car engined westie.

I appreciate the advice about a 'bird' so im just going to see what i can get.

cheers
