Our band have the possibiltity of a few decent gigs next summer in sunny Spain  :D

does any one have any experince of shipping kit out there ?

we have approx 1 transit van full of kit and I know we could drive or ferry it ,but are there any other feasible options  ???

There aren't. Shipping a transit van full of stage gear is expensive, and the insuarance would add a significant sum to the total cost. If I was you, I'd drive it.

International shipping is one of my areas of professional expertise, so trust me when I tell you that shipping that amount of gear with adequate insurance could easily reach 4 figures...

does that mean it could be possible to ship ( and return) for less than 1K ???

Ah ha! Another bass player.  :D

I'm with Blatters, shipping will cost a fortune. Drive it out there. FWIW, the cheeper option would probably to be to go Dover-Calais and then drive down through France.

There is a ferry to northern spain(Portugal ?), check the internet -I recall looking last year and found some cheap crossings.

Bilbao is where you can sail too in Northern Spain. Its an overnight job. Sometimes works out fairly cheap. If you do go Dover - Calais go with Hover Speed and upgrade to first class for £15....Free meal.....free booze on board and in the terminal lounge....first off the ferry at the other end....WELL WORTH IT.

That's a 4 figure sum *each way*. Shipping/courier quotes are always quoted one way from pick up point to destination point and won't include insurance unless you ask...

Shipping musical instruments will require them to be packed in flight cases or they go without insurance. Items inadequately packed will not be considered for compensation if they get damaged or lost, and cargo shipping by plane or boat is a pretty hazardous environment for "loose" items.

There's also the Portsmouth/Santander ferry. That's a long old crossing too...

Ooh er   I don't like the sound of that , thanks for the advice it looks like it's back to the old "sleeping in the back of a transit tour" again , :(

Rock and Roll   :D

On a simillar note does any one know of a shipping company that could bring a car back from Italy for sensible money.

Not fussed if it needs to be crated but it must come back as shipped.

Or am I better off putting the trailer on the back and driving there myself ?

Shipping cars can get pretty involved if you grab the wrong geezer on the phone. That said, why not Google for european car importers and see what's out there?

That said, how much of an excuse do you need to go to Italy for a few days?

Fair point but its time !

And I'll probably end up with a van of p******** up club members doing bad rabbit jokes :p
