O/T: Detachable Towbar part no.

Recommended Posts

My 55 plate Mk1 Seat Leon Cupra FR has a Cupra R bodykit.

I need a detachable towbar. I've seen various Cupra R's fitted with detachable towbar in the past but can no longer find the links. I know there will need to be a visible cut but I'm talking to a local fitter about minimising/ disguising the "damage".

I know that the towbar part exists but haven't been able to find it yet.

Anyone in the industry able to find me the part no. or suggest a way to find.

Am also posting this to various Seat forums.

Thanks in advance.

Do a search on SeatCupra.net, its been discussed several times on there (including by me). Strictly there isnt a towbar for the Cupra R because Seat haven't approved the car for towing, so anyone fitting one is risking their insurance not paying out in the event of an accident, but the FR / Cupra is approved for towing. I originally bought a Brink removable bar to fit to my Cupra at the time (a facelift model with the bigger rear bumper), but after fitting and cutting the bumper etc, it was clear that it wasnt right and in the end they gave me my money back and paid for a replacement bumper, because it was meant for the 4WD model and they didnt (at the time, might be different now) have a specific one for the 2WD car. After that I fitted a Bosal which was fine.

Here's my original thread, which details the Brink model number to avoid (Model no. 4009)

i have a witter fitted to my FR , its better than the brink ones because the slot thats needed to be cut is under the bumper ,where the brink (official seat) one has a letter box slot cut higher up that you can see ..........

Ever though you have the cupra r squared bumper its the same as the late fr bumper at the bottom , as the difference is the squared bit.

ring GT towing potters bar  they are spot on when it comes to the witter stuff and carry one in stock.

Cheers all, think you've all hit the nail on the head.

Cupra-R's aren't meant to tow.

No-one supports a bona-fide Cupra-R style bumper fitting detachable towbar, though specific Witter, Bosal and Brink bars will fit (albeit a little trial and error and cutting required).

It looks like I'll just have to pick the closest bar and have a go.

Editted for what I think are the closest bars...

Brink - 401200

So, Harv and Chris, you guys got any visible id markings on your bars?

Or even pictures I could reference against?

Thanks all

Hi Peter

Sorry, I haven't got the car any more so don't have any more info Im afraid.

The Brink one you've highlighted certainly seems different to the one I was sold, which was the 4009 (shown as 400900 on that website). Im not sure how relevent it is to the 401200, but the 400900 had a visible hole with a small plastic plug which you could get painted to match, but it still wouldnt be totally hidden.

Looking at the Witter fitting PDF that has a cut underneath the bumper as Harv mentioned, so would probably be the best bet. I suspect the attachment bracket still hangs underneath and is slightly visible (?) but at least if you need to remove it then the hole wouldnt show.

cheers

Chris
