Which Cam?

Thanks for correcting me. Should I have said 'rocker cover'?

Nope, crossflow is a pushrod engine, the cam is contained within the block.

Okey dokey, something else to add to my list of things to 'parrot' :)

The roller operator did just offer the results (129 fly - 84 wheels) as an estimation with no supporting evidence, but I am starting to doubt his expertise. I may remove the gearbox while I have the chance just for a look see. It be honest I don't know what to 'look see for' as far as bhp losses go but it may help me with my overall understanding. Quick question, is it a mammoth task to switch to a 5 sp box (type 9?) from my 4 sp bullet?

I wouldn't take much notice of the losses measured at a rolling road. They are far removed from what is happening in the real world when your wheels are in contact with the ground. You will have far more friction driving a couple of rollers than with a single point of contact on the road.

Your gearbox and diff aren't cooled and would therefore overheat very badly if they were losing you any more than a couple of BHP.

The harder the car is strapped down on the rollers the higher the losses will be plus you hace two contact patches per tyre not one as you would on the road.

Kevin is correct in saying not to take much notice of the rolling losses.

Chaz.

Thanks again. The cam is a KC234 G, I don't suppose anyone has the valve settings to hand? Kent's offices are obviously closed. If not I will have a look on their site.

Kent's site gives VC's of, inlet 0.56mm and exhaust 0.61mm. Do these sound about right?

That's (in old money) inlet 22 thou, exhaust 24 thou. That's practically standard ford cam clearences. Can someone confirm this as these clearences seem big to me.

They seem quite big, allow me a minute to check and confirm.

Thanks again.
