hoobahole Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I know this is real noddy - but for number plate fitting into the nosecone (below the grille) are fixings supplied when the numberplate is made - and do they generally have something to screw or bolt into on the inside of the nosecone - or should I just be looking to use some m5 nuts and bolts to attach it? Or is there a nut/bolt free method that can withstand 130+ mph...? Quote
Mark B Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 If you go into most car accessory shops they sell triangular shaped number plate brackets, these can be fixed onto the lower part of the nose with nuts & bolts, then the number plate can be stuck to it. It's steady as a rock, but if it does catch on anything the brackets will bend & the plate moves out of the way causing no damage to the nosecone or numberplate. Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Hang it from a hinge - it moves out of the way when struck and hangs nice and legally when stationary. Might blow back a bit at speed though - still there's always some snag isn't there? (not my idea officer, received wisdom) Quote

hoobahole Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 Well the car is listed as max speed 130mph and I travel to the 'ring a fair few times a year - so figure it might max out there. Previous cars have topped that speed - but they have been more aerodynamic than the Westie. Quote
Darren B Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I drilled through the underside of the nosecone at an appropriate width for the plate, then made a couple of bits of ali that mount on the internal side of the base of the nosecone (M5 bolts), bend up over the bottom lip of the nose and hang down the front. I then mounted the plate onto those (Plastic no plate bolts). You can mount it as high or low as you want and I know that it copes with 110 ish from the sprint at Croft. Quote
chappers Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Rivnuts in the nose cone and plastic number plate bolts. Quote
The Great Fandango Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 For SVA simply use loads of double sided outdoor sticky pads, then remove the licence plate forever more.... Not been pulled over (touch wood) just yet for not having a registration plate on the front. This doesn't even cause a problem at MOT. Your local happy shopper (Wilko Motorsave) stock stick on plates. You have to sign to say it's not going on a car, but who's gonna check? Queue barrage of comments against my point of view... Quote
Mark B Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Apart from it's not a problem for sva as you don't have a plate then.... Quote
Blacknblue Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 I got a smaller than legal sized plate for my first MOT a couple of weeks ago, just dropped it into the gap between grill and nosecone. Passed MOT and now it's back in the boot box where it belongs. Ready for next year (or if I get stopped) Quote
headland blue Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 ive never had one bin stoped once loading the ferry on my way home from the ring dont bother it fell of officer Quote
