or, a scooby engine can be made to fit a bus transaxle, and would fit quite nicely in the back of a mini, or saxo or whatever

I'm sure I've read somewhere that a Scooby lump and a VW camper 'box are a bolt together job, but I'd be concerned about feeding one with that much torque...

:suspect:

they're used in dune buggies and all sorts in the states, theres lots of upgrades available for them irrc.

When I've finished my locost I'm currently planning on a vague sebring style mgbgt v8 with the v8 currently in my westfield as my daily driver. Current favourite as it's been done before so I know it's solvable and will work and I already have a belter of an engine to go in it.

I also considered a porsche 944 lux with an LS1 dropped in. They're very nice cars to drive but too slow. It's been done before and there are even fitting kits available from the states but the cost was quite high... something I''d like to do in the future though.

R1 in an imp or a 2cv would be quite good fun but have limited usefulness to me.

Like it  :t-up: but...

Why not try another type of v8? Cos they're generally unpopular, you can buy plenty of v8 cars  for not much money now with lumps that are quicker and more efficient and more interesting than the Rover :  BMW 540i, Lexus Soarer / LS400, Merc 500s, XJ jag.

Make some engine and gearbox mounts, a prop and a couple of exhaust manifolds et voila.

Twas a damper van when I got it. Luckily I had lots of rubbercoat left over from doing the underside of the Fury and gobbed up all the cracks in the roof. Now it's dry as can be.  :t-up:

I've been looking at alternatives too and read that article in PPC about alternative v8s. I don't know where I'd stand on emissions with a more modern ngine and whether or not the saving in engine cost would be outweighed by the extra complexity of getting manifolds made that would fit and mapping the thing. I'm quite tempted by a chevy engine though. Fortunately I've got lots of time to change my mind more times than you would imagine possible ;)

I'm stupidly over confident in my engineering skills

???  :0  :D  ;)

My suggestion: buy my TVR and just enjoy the Summer outside instead of in the garage!!

:)

Nice to see you again Sam!
