KerryS Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 There I was changing a wheel on the Westy when there was the rumble of a V12 and there's a Spitfire doing circles over my house. Why? It's one owned by Rolls Royce I believe Kerry Quote

KerryS Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 Could be but it lives here in Bristol was it blueish in colour? Click That's the one! Unless there are more with three stripes across the wing. Seen tonight in Derby, so there may be some RR connection. Kerry Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 You can see it quite a bit in the summer flying around filton airfield the sound is awesome sounds much better than the Merlin powered planes when fitted with the bigger Griffon engine. I see plenty of these engines when I am Tractor Pulling and when they start up the sounds is fantastic. Quote
KerryS Posted May 22, 2006 Author Posted May 22, 2006 I recently went to an IMechE talk on the A380 and it was held at the RR training place. Alongside was their heritage collection and I spent a good hour before the talk walking round this, just marvellous. I must say I hadn't realised that the RR Spitfire was a Griffon but it did sound good. And the shape, just beautiful. Still no idea why it was here though. It's done fly passes before at outdoor concerts here in Derby and occasionally the BoB Lancaster does a tour over the factory too. Kerry Quote

Mid life crisis Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Or four of them in the Lancaster? K Ditto Quote
KerryS Posted May 23, 2006 Author Posted May 23, 2006 For anyone who is remotely interested, apparently RR had some special guests staying at their country house just north of Derby. I guess having a Spitfire to play with is a bit like having a Westy, any excuse............... Kerry Quote
