machin Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Going to pick up a trailer on friday, just in time for Shelsley... was wondering how many wheel straps people use to hold down their car??? 1,2, 4? Cheers, Machin Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 It would be safest to use 4 but personally I would never use straps over the wheels. The ratchets are quite strong and if you over tighten them well, you risk upsetting your suspension geometry by pulling the wheels. I have loops welded to my chassis at the 4 corners and use these to hook the ends of the straps over. If you have wheel chocks at the front, I have seen people uise just 2 straps but the back end is then prone to jump sideways making a straight reverse of the trailer near on impossible. John Quote
studbuckle Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 4. Why compromise.? And have always used wheel straps. Ratched to pull towards the middle of the trailer. Approved method from Brian James Quote
Blacknblue Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I have always used 4, and again always used wheel straps. I prefer to have the car move on it's suspension than be tied down rigid using the chassis points. Quote
