have you considered the new  A6 or Passat, Personally due to vag petrols I would prefer both of these in diesel,  they are much roomier than A4/3 series bmw. rear room is an issue for most people, cant tell you how many people ive had out to view A4 Avants and walked away on the leg room, A6 is massive in comparison, the new shape is a good looking  car and should be in budget ? , I havent driven one but if its any better than the old model it will be very good, build quality 2nd to none, depreciation should be less than the honda.

V70 is defo worth a look, they do have an image thing but if you can get your head round  that the T5 and even the D5  engines are cracking and both  very quick when remapped ..

as a sensible family car that wont bore the pants off yer My vote on a big estate car would be the 5 series diesel  tourer but they are expensive in comparison ,on a honda budget you would need to look 2nd hand..

Ive owned 100s of cars and the the new 5 series diesel (mines a saloon) is the only car ive * ever *got attatched to , Ive 3 kids and all the stuff that goes with them so I too needed something big and practical but still exciting(ish)  they are massive in side, very well specced, quality feel, evo performance (280bhp and enough torque to pull a house down) and up to 50mpg and imho  to look at.  ive had mine  1 year now !! a record for me and i have no plans to change it  :t-up:  :t-up: unless M5" take a tumble in price  ;)  :D

Jeff thamks for the advice, but the insurance would be too steep for me.I would love a beemer, but like the Audi, when it goes wrong, which they do as I found out, aren't cheap to fix.I have put a deposit down on an Accord estate Exec 2.2 diesel today.Just got to try and push the Audi onto the forecourt to PX it now.....
