I am looking to fit new tyres to my narrow body. At the moment I have 13" rims and was wondering which are the best tyres for general road use + the occasional track day. I noticed up at Stoneleigh that a lot of sevens were using Yokohamas are they the way to go? If so which particular model is best for my use?

Generally will depend on how 'sticky' you want them. There could be a compromise between outright grip, and wet weather performance (if that's important to you).

I've used both Yoko A539s and AO21Rs. Both are great road tyres, and perform well in the wet. Some people use the more sticky AO48Rs, but personally I'm not sure I'd trust a tyre like that in extreme wet conditions (although I have no direct experience of them).

Other options are Toyos, either T1R or T1S, or R888 for the 'sticky' option.

My current car runs on 13" AO21Rs, with a 70 profile to give me a bit of extra ground clearance. I got these from George Polley for less than 40 quid a tyre.

Thanks Andy the A539's sound good - any chance you could give me the contact details for George Polley?

avoid A539! Horrible on the wet!

I never had any problem with A539s when they were on my car...and it was out when it was very wet at times (although admittedly I wasn't driving on the limit for obvious reasons).

George Polley is here (Google is your friend :))

My 539's also seemed fine in the wet.

I've recently fitted 185/60r13" A539's and am very pleased with them, even in really wet weather.

Shame Toyo don't make a T1R in 13" as I've been pretty impressed with them so far.

It's until you try some really good wet tyres such as Michelin's and Bridgestone's offerings...

The A539 is a very hard wearing tyre, but its advantages stop there in my experience...

I have AO48 Yokos on mine and they are fine in the wet even in the "very" wet I've not had any issues.

I had A539 on my Pinto powered Westy and the A048 is streaks ahead in the dry and marginally worse in the wet.

The wear rates on the AO48 seeme pretty good to.

Chaz.
