Bike engined Mini

Recommended Posts

before Westfields I was into Minis.  I was in a pub conversation recently, and we were wondering if it would be possible to put a bike engine into a mini?  Apologies if this is a really stupid question.  Obviously getting the power down to the front wheels would be fun, I just wondered if it would be possible.

I think I read in CCC that someone has already done it, they put a Blackbird (?) or maybe ZZR 1100 motor into one, but the lack of torque on the heavier car was annoying (although not too bad) and they were considering a turbo...

I thought a mini only weighed about 600kg?  That isn't that much more than a bike engined Westfield.

Yip-its been done a few times. I know of at least two that were built for autograss racing (the home of bike engined cars,  and twin bike engined cars.......Also jammed in the front of poor unsuspecting Minis have been Vx motors, Honda VTECs, and I have even seen a Ford Essex V6 in one (why?).

But if you thin about it, the Busas are no more than 450 kgs without driver. That said, me plus big passenger in my car gives about 650 kgs I suppose with aeroscreen on and is quick!

It must be a right crack out-accelerating an unsuspecting porsche and watch him wonder why your car makes so much beatiful noise....
