xillent2 Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 i've used the search function and also looked at the Faq section. Googled too. Looks like there are several car covers with various prices and types. i don't want ripped off but obviously don't want a crappy cover. i need it to withstand heavy rain/ wind (i'm in Scotland!. Does anyone have a recommendation. Quote
Bean Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 There is a post in the FAQ section, see here: Can you keep a Westfield outside in the open? I bought a cover from here: MTLCW £90.00 Caterham etc 3.80 m Highly recommended, kept my car outside the past 6 months, no problems. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I've got the same cover as Bean, the car's lived under it for 18 months plus now with no problems. (Other than when I forgot to do up the strap under the car, but that's another story) It's a good compromise cost/quality wise, and the fitted shape means it's not too baggy and flappy when the wind gets up. BuGsBuNnY Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 is it fully waterproof? ie, woult it be ok on a car with no weathergear? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 It has been for me, my car is aeroscreened; and till the end of last week when I fitted a tonneau cover the Hamilton cover was all the protection it's had. Quote
matthew h Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Thread Hi-jack...................... Does anyone know of a small cover that would do a car with an aeroscreen in le mans? Would a golf umbrella work (or does it blow off)? We were thinking of a section of ground sheet & a couple of pegs. Quote
Bananaman Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Have you the space for something semi-permanent? If so why not build a structure out of marine ply 6'x12'x4' Like that guy had on that mother-in-law programme the otherday......... Quote
xillent2 Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 Funny you should mention the semi permanent option. i'm still considering that. The good thing with the cover though is that i can stick it over the car if parked at work. i cant be arsed with the roof on the car to be honest. At the moment the Hamilton Classics cover seems to get the vote. i've requested some further info from their competitors. Quote
Blatman Posted April 10, 2006 Posted April 10, 2006 Softbitsforsevens.co.uk are worth a look. For an aeroscreened car a decent tonneau cover is a must IMHO, and although my car has a screen and doors, I am happy to leave it outside in the rain with just a tonneau to protect the interior. That said, proper torrential rain will still breach the zip, but it has to be a spectacular downpour for me to be concerned... Quote
Bean Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 is it fully waterproof? ie, woult it be ok on a car with no weathergear? Fully waterproof, my car has no other protection. I am tempted to get a half tonneau made eventually. Quote
Willow Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 I have a Hamilton Classic cover and it's brilliant. The only problem I find is that if I don't put my hood up before putting the cover on, during heavy rain, the cover sags into the cockpit (not helped by the fact that my neighbours cats also sit on it). How does everyone else get round this problem? (the sagging cover, not the cats sitting on it! Just proves how fully waterproof the covers are though, as I've emptied a couple of gallons off it when it's sagged and not a drop has gone through. Quote
