Guest Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 8856-2000 is a current suit and approved for all events including racing in europe. Quote
slippy Posted April 2, 2006 Posted April 2, 2006 Get one with a elasticated front for the iminent middle age spread Quote
salty_monk Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 These are cheap enough... not as padded as Sparco & not sure if suitable for SS but perfect for trackdays definitely... Hughes Quote
Blatman Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Sparco suits etc aren't padded, they just have 2 or 3 layers. Proban suits are OK, BUT the Proban part is an additive that washes out, so after a few goes in the washing machine, it's useless. Nomex is a fire retardant marerial. It does not have any additive that can wash out, so you can wash it as much as you want. I personally wouldn't ever use a Proban suit, nor a suit with anything less than 3 layers of Nomex. And remember, a fireproof suit merely gives you a bit more survival time. And whilst the Nomex might not catch fire, but your cotton T shirt will, and so will your cotton socks, and any non nomex footwear you're wearing, and of course not forgetting your cotton pants . Nomex doesn't protect you from heat either, so basically, if you're on fire get the f**k out and find a fire marshal, pronto Quote
Tomcat Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Like Blatters I opted for the Triple layer Nomex over the Proban based on the fact that in a Westfield you end up getting wet a lot sprinting (well I seem to) and I was concerned that the Proban would degrade - let alone washing it! I guess so long as you are aware of these things you can make an informed decision and know the Proban may degrade in performance if you wash it and get it wet a lot. Quote
Bananaman Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 That reminds me I left my bl**** suit at the dry cleaners 2 weeks ago.... Taxi..................... Quote
