wacomuk Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I want to change my 3.92 type A diff to LSD. Iv been asking loads of questions and have found out that it cant be done. i gave BGH Geartech a call today (very helpfull! ) they told me i need to change to a Type B diff (flange type) which will also mean changing my drive shafts. i then give westfield a call to see if they do the shafts, the tech guy i spoke to said they do!! i got put through to the sales dep and told the shafts will cost £135 for both inc vat, he then said you may need to change the hubs aswell which will be another £130 has anyone done this ?? do i need to change the shafts and hubs or will just changing the shafts do the trick? stu999 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I guess you are refering to fitting a Ford viscous diff, in which case as you have already found out, isn't going to be straight forward. Might be best to go and get a Quaife unit priced up, might turn out to be the cheapest (and the most hassle free) job. IIRC Cateringvans use the type A diff, might be a line worth investigating... SteveRST Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 What is a type A or type B diff? I have not heard of it. Are we talking sierra diffs here? Or maybe the old 'english' diff used in old escorts? steve Quote
wacomuk Posted March 27, 2006 Author Posted March 27, 2006 Both diffs are off a ford sierra. a type A is the early diff with push in drive shafts. Type B is the later (more common) diff with bolt on drive shafts or flange type shafts BGH said the type A diffs are to small inside to take the viscus pack so would need machining out. So the type A`s can be made into VLSD but at a cost, far more than changing to a Type B and changing the drive shafts i dont want to swap internals i want to swap diffs Quote
