What is the best way to block up the hole where the original oil breather fitted on the zetec engine?

Is this the best thing to do?

There are two breathers on a zetec, one on the cam cover and the other is the crankcase breather . As far as I know neither should be blocked off.

I had a metal plate made and blanked off the crancase breather and bought a small filter for cam cover.

No probs so far.

Sam as Peter says there are two breathers, if you are going for SVA i would just vent them both to atmosphere by running pipe from each to the bottom of the engine bay, Or you could connect these pipes to a suitable catch tank (this will be required for hill climbs/trackdays etc.)

On the westfield supplied ones they have a ball valve on the crank case which is vented to air (no additional pipe or anyhing)  Since the area around it stays clean, I assume it does not opn very often!

mine is blanked off on the crank with a plate , the one on the cam cover goes to the catch tank ,my catch tank also has a vent to atmosphere.

I have mine both connected to a catch tank, I wasn't sure about blocking it off as I thought it must of been put theere for a reason.

Remember reading somewhere that Westfield didn't recommend the breather exit from the block being blanked off, due to the risk of the crankcase pressure causing the rear crank seal to leak   ???

If i do fit the orginal breather to the crank case where do i run the hoses. I know i can go to a catch tank but someone said you can run the hose to the bottom of the engine bay...??

on mine i have a small chrome filter attached to the cam cover and on the engine block, a piece of black hose off the Ford breather 'looped' facing down to the road.

(i don't have a catch tank)

I believe that if there is an engine breather fitted then make use of it.The crankcase one has a spring and plate in the breather to only allow pulling fumes on vacuum over run on a standard engine. You can like others and me,remove the pipework and fitting and run a piece of 1/2 inch hose into it.This will leave it the same diameter to the catch tank as Perksy shows above.I used to have a piece of steel pipe like Nikpro, but its internal bore is only about 10mm,so best to leave it off and go the 1/2 inch to the tank.I piped the top head one to the tank too.A friend who has a garage, says that he has seen problems with standard road zetecs, weeping oil and is cured by using the breathers or in his case cleaning them out.
