Animal Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Fitted my refurbished gearbox today and when i test drove the car there is a annoying rattle from the gearstick (not pleased after spending £250 on a rebuild) It has to be something to do with the quickshift i don't think it's the box. If you rest your hand on the knob or push down hard the noise stops. The problems were there before the rebuild. Do you think i need a new quickshift? Animal Quote
neilwillis Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Mine does the same, I'd be interested in the answer to this one too Quote
Gromit Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 Mine used to rattle like a good`un, the problem with mine was where the extension rod connected with the gearchange rod. I basically squeezed the fork of the connection together with a pair of mole grips till the play was minimal. It did make quiet an improvement but didnt eradicate it completly. Quote
Paul Ash Posted March 18, 2006 Posted March 18, 2006 worn spherical bearing on gear lever. I refitted std gear lever and the rattles gone. Must get a new one at some point. Quote

Paul Ash Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Sorry but what is the std gear lever?? The std Gear lever as fitted originally to the sierra, all be it cut down in height, but then I do not have a gear lever extension kit fitted as my engine position is right back, so my gear lever is straight into the gearbox. The orginal lever has a bush arrangement whereas the Quickshift lever has a proper bearing, which wears and then becomes loose and hence rattles, but obviously gives a much better gear change due to the bearing. Blatman Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Er, I think Paul has a type 9 'box. The type 9 gearbox extension is quite different from the MT75 extension. I can't help on the MT75 rattly knob question, but for type 9's, many a rattle has been cured by fitting a new plastic insert into the recess for the gear lever selector fork... Quote
Gromit Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Er, I think Paul has a type 9 'box. bl**** funny looking type9 then. Quote
