Quick release steering boss recommendation?

Which one for a standard westfield steering column?

Do I just go for westfield's item or look at others as well?

Any idea on who makes compatible ones?

It doesn't really matter which you go for as you're going to need a weld on boss anyway.  Think I'm leaning towards a lifeline one from a Feller called Keith Conelly who advertises on racecar.com

Get a splined one rather than a hex one... apparently the hex ones frequently suffer from play, mine certainly does (so much so I may araldite the b******* on this w/e.

Yep, same thing here too. It's on my list of things to replace.

I had a Racetech one in my previous car. Never had any problems with that.

I've a splined boss ! - is there  a way I can identify which it is?

Does choice of boass matter ?

At some point I want to change the steering wheel for a bigger one (I fancy the standard Wessie one),  does any boss fit any wheel or do certain  bosses work with ceratin wheels?

Hope I'm on the same wavelength and not missing the point but I've had great success with the Raid's "Snap-Off Kit"

Since I purchased mine back in 2004 it seems Momo have started doing what looks like an identical version.

Here:   Snap-Off Steering Wheel Kit

Unlike the Westfield and other similar options this is a half inch thick plate which attaches to the back of your steering wheel. This section contains locking mechanism and release levers.

This simply slots onto its plate which is attached by 6 hex-bolts to the 'boss' (although again I understand loads of Westifelds don't actually use a boss on the steering column.

Main outcome is one hell of a good looking and professional finish and it's secure as you need the key.

Only downside is it's not a quick release system for safety on the track.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has used this kit?

Just one point though, this is a job for after SVA, a standard WF wheel/boss is needed for the test.

Another vote for the Racetech bits from me. I've got one on both of my cars and they have been faultless for me  :t-up:

The race tech is splined but its  keyed so  will only fit when correctly orientated

I think the one wessy supply is a racetech .

I sent my columb and they welded it up for me , nice job too !

Just one issue , there is some fore and aft movement on the boss , don't know if theres a cure but you do get used to it  :)

I picked up one of these "Rebco" ones for about £30 at the Autosport show a couple of years ago

I thought its price had been marked up incorrectly because its as well made as the Raceparts / OMPs etc, but looking around afterwards they do actually sell for that amount. The only downside of it is that it doesnt have a blind keyway so you need to ensure the wheels are straight ahead before you put it on, but if that was an issue you could quite easily mod it to only go on in one place.

If you have a look here they list a couple of UK dealers, I think I got mine from the Randall Motorsport stand.

I have a racetec one too, and very good they are :t-up:

The kit is in 2 parts, a splined boss which needs welding to your column and the Q/R mechanism which bolts to the back of your steeing wheel.  The Racetech one has 3 spokes and quite a small bolt PCD - you just need to check that this is compatible with your wheel.  If you are changing your wheel anyway you can always get a wheel with undrilled spokes and drill 3 holes to suit.  Or buy a racetech wheel [also very good] and they will drill it to suit.

Recently bought a SPA QR boss, so much better than the cheaper hex one I got from Rally Design.
