RS WST Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I'm looking for the old type VW / Audi TD engine as found in the early Audi 100 between 1988 and 1990 with the mechanical injection system. I'm thinking of putting the engine into a Suzuki Jeep which is a popular conversion for the 4cly TD's Thought I'd go one stage further and go 5 cyl. Apparently they come in both 2 L and 2.5L Anybody know where I could get one and what sort of money I'd be paying. I need one that hasn't done a million miles if possible. Cheers Austen
JeffC Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 same engine is also in the vw transporters , and a higher powered version fitted to the Volvo 850/v70/s70 and early 6 speed A6 diesels.. wouldnt worry about miles, I was buying them when they were 3 tears old with 200k on they are a bomb proof engine
Bananaman Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I had a Volvo 850 estate with a 2.5 of this in it, not the quickest vehicle but was a fine towcar... Tended to find most of the power from about 2,500rpm, unusual for TDi It felt like it had a light revy flywheel...

The conversion kit I was thinking of using allows most VW engines to bolt upto the existing suzuki bell housing. Do the Volvo engines use mechanical injection system? It makes my life easier as the Tdi's require all the dash and electrics for them to work.
JeffC Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 volvo use the Audi unit.. used to do a bit with these.. with a tuning box they see a decent gain in performance from memory they increase to close to 170bhp . I dont think the early engines are high tech they have a 8 pin wiring connector going to the fuel pump.. the later V70"s were never as quick as the earlier cars, they had a different airflow meter.. I havnt had a lot to do with the early shape A6 but I know the engines came in 110bhp and 140bhp one is 5 and the other is 6 speed..the 110 is in the vw transporter,,
Thrustyjust Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 you could try 4 ring spares for and engine, seem pretty good whenever I needed Audi bits.
